what is the turn around for surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all, What is the quickest you have heard someone starting the process and getting to surgery? I'm going to wait until tomorrow night to really make the decision, but with all the research and reading, I am leaning toward having the surgery. My issue is that I would like to move it along quickly...what is your experience? Thanks!

I was banded in Ontario Canada, and I am self pay. It was 3 weeks from initial consult to surgery day. In that three weeks I had a sleep study, pre-op exam with my GP and 10 day liquid diet.

I think it depends on the individual clinic

I'm Canadian as well, and self pay in Tijuana, Mexico. From the time I made the decision to the day of surgery was also around 3 weeks. I could have had it quicker than that if I could have swung it.

Good luck! It's the decision I ever made, wish I could have made it 25 years ago!!!

Wow! That would be awesome! I am going to have to stay in NH for insurance purposes, hopefully it won't be the six months that I keep hearing about...

Moe:

I think it can vary based on your surgeon's requirements as well as your insurance company's requirements. You may want to ask the surgeon's surgery coordinator if they know how long it takes for someone with your medical insurance plan. It took me 3 months from my first visit with the surgeon. I had to have a number of appointments/preliminary tests in order to get approval.

Good luck.

Sue

Thanks! They said that 2 months is the absolute quickest I can go. The waiting will just about kill me, but I have been waiting for so many years, what's a couple more months right?

Hi Moe, I attended the same seminar you did on 5/14 in Portsmouth. I mailed my application on Monday in Portsmouth, so assume they got it on Tuesday. I called the surgery coordinator today and got a call back from Renee who said it usually takes a week before they start calling folks back to schedule interviews.

She also said that 6-8 weeks from your interview is the usual interval to surgery. I'm as anxious as you are to get this show on the road!

Keep in touch.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
