just banded 5/6/2008

Recommended Posts

I'm newly banded and am on the liquid diet until 5/20/08. I have very little energy at times. Does this happen to everyone? I have lost 12 lbs since 5/6/08.

I was banded on 5/9 and do not have much energy. I think I am mostly dehydrated and not getting enough nutrients. I think it will go away in a few days after we are able to take in more food.< /p>

I was banded yesterday and I'm not hungry yet. It really hurts when I take a deep breath. Does anyone else have this problem.

It is normal after any surgery for it to hurt to take a deep breath. The hospital gave me a breathing pump to use until my lungs were back at their normal capacity. Although it hurts, it is VERY important that you continue to take deep breaths so you don't develop pnemonia or respirtory problems.

I was banded 5/7 and I still do not have my energy level up. I do not have any problem drinking Protein Shakes or eating yogurt. I do not feel so full right after like so many talk about. I can have a full Protein Shake in one sitting with no problem. Is this the case with anyone else?

I went back to work on monday and didn't make it the whole day- I nearly fell asleep while teaching a lesson :tongue2:

I know my energy level is still really low!

I was banded last weds, the 7th. I'm finally "surgical incision" pain free, but I do have gas still that hurts. Also, since Sunday night, I've developed a constant dull to sharp pain right below my left ribcage. My port is on the right so it's not that. I slowed down on my incentive spirometer so that may have some to do with it. I've got it at my work desk to use more often. I will be asking my doc about it when I go to see him tomorrow.

I got my band on May 5th, I went back to work on May 12th and am very tired. I am having trouble getting my self to drink the Protein Drinks and eat (I guess you can call it eating) the full liquids. I am on them till the 22nd when I go to see the doctor. The only real pain I have is where the port is, it's kind of hard and swollen feeling, anyone else have that?

I was banded on the 6th and still have pain also. My abdomen is still very swollen. I thought I was the only one. Some people sound like they are off jogging the 3 days out.

thanks kellygirl for your reply:rolleyes2: My diet is very limited until the 20th. I can have 10 oz of slim fast optima with 2 scoops of Protein Powder (2 oz 6 times a day.) In between my 6 meals I can sip on Water, sugar free Jello or popsicles, Decaf tea with splenda or chicken or beef broth. It's making for a long 2 week, but it will be worth it in the end. I just want to get enough energy to be able to function normally at work. I am walking on the treadmill some and around the neighborhood, but it's tiring. Congrats to everyone recently banded and I pray that we all reach our goals and keep it off. I'm remaining positive.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
