Thanks Sue! I had the Pats up there, but thought if I want to actually speak to anyone, but people from New England, I'd better go with the Red Sox:) People don't realize how long we have waited to see all of the New England teams in a hunt for championships:) Go Sox and let me know if you ever have trouble getting rid of any of your seats:biggrin: LOL

The seminar was fantastic and the sergeons were really nice. I weighed in the next day and am waiting for the consult now. I'm psyched! Moe

Hello NH Lap-Banders!!!

I am also from the Granite State and am looking at using the Portsmouth Hospital for surgery. I think our only other option is Parkland in Nashua or DHMC up in Hanover.

At any rate, I unfortunitly missed the March info. seminar and will have to go to the June one...which only makes me wait longer. Ugh. Now that I've made the decision to be banded I want to get this party going! :rolleyes2:

Hello! They mentioned at the seminar that each insurance policy has to have the rider for the surgery. I called my insurance and asked. You could call the office or send them an email, but I think they are going to say wait until the seminar. If I talk to them, I will ask them. With most of the insurances they said if your insurance covered it, you should be all set. They did say Medicare/medicaid were not covered, but they mentioned the out of pocket cost may be higher with some insurances, but I'm not sure which ones. I looked through my packet and it doesn't mention HP. Basically it's a long answer that says I don't know, but I will ask if I get a chance:wink2:

Thanks Moe...I'll get more specifics. I did find out that my ins. will pay for lapband. Now I just need to go to the info meeting and the psyche eval. I'm really looking forward to getting it done now that I've made my decision and had my primary care phys say that he agrees it is a plausable remedy.

:smile2:

I've got Harvard Pilgrim but no band yet. So far I've found HP to be very easy. When I phoned HP last month to see if WLS was covered, I was told that it is covered as long as it is deemed "medically necessary" by my PCP and with a referral from my PCP.

My PCP is on board with my getting banded, so I feel pretty confident that everything will be covered. :)

Have you found out how fills are covered yet?

Thanks Trish...

I have an update...went to the open seminar that the Portsmouth Docs gave this past Tuesday. Very informative. Turns out some NH insurance carriers don't allow any Bariatric anything. I checked with Harvard P and they do...same reasons as you got. Good luck...stay in touch...

Susan

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
