Needing tips and ideas..two days out

Recommended Posts

OMG!! I was banded on May 12th and I can keep nothing down two days out. Lots of gas pain, but it is subsiding. But everything is making me vomit, from shakes to Jello.

How long before the anthesthia wears off, because I am soooo tired. I feel like all I want to do is sleep. My stomach is doing flip flops.

I am in need of some tips.

og man i feel for you.... i had it bad for about 5 days postop... i finally got fed up and took milk of magnesia... more than the required amount... that cleaned me out!... are u taking pain killers?.. the codeine in it will make u constipated so only take it if you need to... the gas will subside.. and walking helps but ready to spend some time in the bathroom if u go with milk of magnesia.

That's not normal, you should contact your doc ASAP. Vomitting can make your band slip AND it was just put in. Your stomach needs time to heal. Maybe your doc can prescribe anti-nausea medicine.

I was banded on April 22 and felt the same way. I pretty much just had sips of Water and broth the first two days. Anything else made me hurl. I couldn't take the Calcium supplements either without vomiting. The nurse called my house the day after the surgery and the next day, and I told her what was happening, and she said it was normal. I think I had Jello and sugar free ice pops on the third day and was still nausiated but didn't hurl. Just take it easy and make sure to get your water in so that you don't get dehydrated. It gets better with each passing day.

I feel for you. I was nauseous for 4 days post op. (never threw up). I called my surgeon's nurse and she called me in a prescription for phenergan. Made me want to sleep all the time but at least it got rid of the nausea.

Vomiting isn't good at this point and can make your band slip. Call your Dr. and get some anti-nausea meds. Sip thin liquids (no jello) like broth, Water, gatorade until the nausea goes away.

sorry you feel so crappy but in time you will feel better. I would stop the shakes - my doc told me only Clear Liquids for the first few weeks because of the vomiting factor. if you don't feel like anything try sipping broth, Water, even ginger ale - also popsicles will give you some liquid intake. good luck and hang in there!

I went to take yet another nap and when I woke I checkd the forum to see if anyone responded to my post. You all offered some great advice and I have to admit, it really is encouraging.

Feeling this way makes me so discouraged and I don't want to regret this..I want to be happy I have done this.

My husband is going to get me a variety of ice pops and I am going to put in a call to the doc. to see about the nauseau. I didn't even think of band slippage.that made me nervous.

The nurse from the hopital did call today and I let her know the deal and she said it sounded normal. Man, they just don't know unless they have been through it.

I don't think I am going to mess with the MOM, but I did get Gas X in case the back and shoulder pain continue..thankfully it has subsided. Or maybe the nauseau makes me forget about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
