I think I'm jealous!! I've been searching for a Krav studio for a long time. The nearest one to me is, like, 170 miles away......sucks......but good luck to you Layne.

I do krav, and had the surgury almost a year ago. I am still very cautious of my port, but I grapple and roll around and spar without any problems so far. I really do worry that I will flip my port, though. but no problems so far

Hay guys,

I have been banded for a while. prior to banding I did martial arts and after banding continued. I am still in it, sill no direct hit on the port. I am still waiting for the accident to happen. I have had people walk all over my stomach and take direct hits to the stomach on a regular basis. not direct hit yet on the port. if anyone has had the direct hit yet, I would love to here about it.

I have been doing several martial arts. I was banded on Nov 18th. I started working out again, mostly weights and oblique twists and stuff like that. I went to the new boxing gym by the house...one of my past students is teaching MMA there. I've been training with him for several years now.

Anyway, yesterday Dec 4th, i sparred for the first time since being banded. I wore the big muy thai abb pad and it went well. One of the guys thought I was wearing it so he could practice his knees. Good thing he was new and not very good with the knees!

I train in Limalama, Aikido, and still do some Shotokan. Mostly MMA now though. I haven't done any aikido yet. Still a little cautious. I have a seminar in January that I'm going to try and make. We'll see how it turns out.

where's your port snowman?

Mine's on my upper left abdomen (some ppl are getting them on their chest?) and... it's caused me a bit of pain before.

I've always been fine for rolling, but watch the body shots. I've gotten "discomfort" from being hit on the port a couple of times. One time it hurt for days afterwards, and it was enough to kind of make me favor the spot defensively for a few weeks.

Other than that I would think everything would be fine. I wouldn't suggest any rubber guards or anything of the such : P. I waited 2 month before going back to any training at all, but felt fine rolling after that.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted here. I'm currently pre-op and have been thinking about going back into martial arts aikido, krav, bjj, etc afterwards but have been wary b/c of the port and everything. My doc said I should be okay, but I didn't really feel comfortable with the answer, probably fear related, but listening to y'all makes me feel better about this and the possible outcomes. I also promise that if I take a direct port hit to let everyone know how badly it hurt.

I use to do combative jui jitsu and sedakon many years ago but I couldn't see going back to that training 2 weeks after surgery. I didn't even turn big valves at work for 6 weeks. They say that you can go back to work pretty much immediately after but if you're in a high stress or job that requires more physical activity than an office job I would recommend waiting. I was told after the healing etc... that you could go back to all things normal no matter stress level.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
