anyone have surgery in Oregon?

Recommended Posts

I went to Dr. Emma Patterson from Oregon Weight Loss Center at Good Samaritan. I have had nothing but a good experiance ...my only complaint however is they are so busy schedualing can be a major issue. However, they did just bring in another Doctor ( Dr. Halpin) and she is very nice aswell. It is cheaper to go to Good Sam I think my surgery was 8,900 not including hospital stay and preliminary tests they make you do .....best of luck ! It has been the best decision I have ever made!

I attended meeting at good sam last week. self-pay was $20-25K. I just can't afford that much. Glad you have had a good experience. Keep up the good work!

I am having surgery July 18 with Dr. Emma Patterson. I live in Portland but I am having the surgery in Vancouver because I am self pay and it costs much less at Southwest Medical Center.

Hi PDX!

Good for you on your surgery date. I will be thinking about you.

I live in Maupin, Oregon and had my band surgery in Tijuana, Mexico by Dr. Pedro Kuri. I also was self pay.

The surgery and everything included cost $7,500.00! Of course the airfare was $300.00 round trip, but the Dr. puts you up in a 4 star motel for 2 nights and provides all your ground transportation to motel and airlines. I found it an excellent experience. The hospital was brand new with all of the latest tecnology and staff. Can't say enough good things about it.

I was banded on June 17, 2008 and am having a fantastic recovery!

I believe when I wrote my original post "Is anyone getting Banded In Oregon", what I meant to say was " Is there anybody from Oregon who has gotten Banded"? I was curious if there were any support groups in Oregon.

Hey, all...

Just thought I would get in on this thread.

I'm just over the river in Vancouver, WA...but I'm having my surgery in Coos Bay, OR on Monday. I am self pay and the cost is $12,500. This includes the first year of fills.

I sure would like to meet some people in the Portland area to share this experience with! I really want to get into biking as well if anyone is interested.

I just looked at their website and it says the 12,550 price is a cash price. Can you still get the price using a credit card or is it strictly cash? I am in Vancouver and that prices is almost 8,000 less than at the Southwest Washington Medical Center.

OMG! That sounds like a lot of money. I had my surgery in Tijuana, Mexico for $7,500.00 with only added expences of airfare for $300.00 round trip. Dr. Kuri payed for all motel costs and and the hospital and facilities were excellent! All fills are included, except you have to go back there to get them. I am having my first fill on July 29th by Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick. first fill appointment is $190.00 and thereafter additional fills are $170.00. I suppose from beginning to end with travel expenses, I'll have about $12,00.00 into it.

I am located in Maupin, OR on The Deschutes River where the fly fishermen and the whitewater rafters are going NUTS this time of year!

The full amount is 19,555 at SWMC. I really like the doctor there. I felt really comfortable with her. I want to find a doctor in this area in case there are problems, ya know. Coos Bay isn't that close but I can still drive there. LOL

I did some re-calculating from my last post and looks like when all is said and done, I'll have closer to $9,000.00 out-of-pocket expenses. Wow, that sounds better than the $12,000.00 I added up previously!

Wish all you self payers could go to Mexico!

I was contacted today by Dr. Halpins medical assistant. I will be seeing her next month. It is nice to see everyone and the different experiences. I hope others join in on the Oregon forum. I will be looking for a mentor soon. Does Good Sam or Dr. Halpin require the patient to lose weight before the surgery?

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
