Flowerfli 0 Posted May 13, 2008 I am halfway through my 6 month supervised diet with my PCP, required by my insurance, my question is what exactly is the insurance looking for during this period. My belief is that they want me to prove I cannot do it on my own before they will pay for the surgery, so I haven't really been putting much effort into it. Or do they want to see some weight loss to prove I will be successful WITH the lap band. So far I have lost about 15-20lbs. basically because I have given up soda...yeah me! FinallyFree 1 Posted May 13, 2008 Yeah YOU!! I asked my insurance company after my surgery this question and the medicaid office last month; both told me the 6 mo. was to prove you could follow a 6 mo. plan. Keep the appts, file the paper work. Wgt. gain or loss had nothing to do with it. So keep up the good work you're half way there!
mrskrzyz 1 Posted May 13, 2008 In my opinion.... nothing. My progress papers showed my bad habits....my docs comments to them... and I was still approved!! I even increased in weight BCBS. Good luck!
judie 1 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi Flowerfli: Who knows? Documentation and paperwork proves what? That you can or cannot do the lap band? Whatever they require, just try to satisfy them. It will pass, and you will have some experience and develop self-discipline. I too went through the same thing! Somehow I just wanted to get all that overwith so I could get my surgery! I guess the moral of the story is: If you want it bad enough, you will do whatever it takes. Since Feb. 26th I have lost 39 lbs. Maybe you can say I was "tempered" for this daily on-going life style change. It's not as bad as it sounds. Time really went by fast and before you know it, your approval will be! Wishing you the best! Judie
ndwife 0 Posted May 13, 2008 Again like everyone said-who knows what they want. I lost 5 pounds and gained that five pounds back in the 3 months that I went to the doctor. Also, stick with it. You are young and do not want this weight to cause more problems with your health. I was just approved and I can't wait. I am infertile and can't have children due to my weight. So, go through the end of the diet and then go for the approval. Good Luck!!
