Hi everyone..I am a kindergarten teacher. I can take as much time as I need off...I told them 2-3 weeks...only because my kiddos like to run and hug and it can get a bit physical. Anyway...this is week 2. Only Monday, I know...I slept a lot today..had a fairly busy weekend and felt exhausted. Feeling much better now...

Anyway....if I want to take next week I should let them know by mid week... any thoughts for those of you who returned to work too soon?

Cindi,

I am a third grade teacher and I had my surgery on a Friday, and went back to work the next Monday. Yep, 3 days. I was so tired on Monday, and it took everything I had to get through the week, but by the next Monday, I felt as though I was back on my game.

I think that for me, the sooner I got back to work, the better. I knew that I was going to be tired, so I just tried to tough it out. My kids are a little older and I told them that I wasn't feeling well. They were awesome.

You gotta go back sometime!! Could you go back for a day and see how you do, or go for a half day?

Thanks Michelle...I probably will go back next Monday and see how it goes. Worst case scenario is that I need a day or two during the week..but the fab sub I have has to leave at the end of this week..so I am going to continue to rest up this week and go back next week. The kids know I have a "sore tummy" so I am sure they will be cool....My school has been soosoo supportive. I am going to a union weekend this weekend at a spiffy resort and my union even paid for me to have a private room so I will get some great rest too.

Thanks

CIndi

By the way...fab weight loss for only a short time. Did you struggle at all in the beginning? I have had a bit of a rough start...but I am determined..FAILING IS NOT AN OPTION

Wow, I had my surgery around midnight on a Thursday, had my son's baptism on Sunday and was back at work Monday. It was a bit rough when my son would kick at me. I was also breastfeeding and couldn't take any of the pain meds because I didn't want it in my milk. All was well for me.

I haven't had the surgery yet! I hope to have it within the next 2 months during summer. I work at an extended school year...I don't get out until June 26 and we go back at the same time as everyone else. I am really nervous..I miss read you posting...smile! I really just want someone to say everything will be fine...but you life will not be the same, it will be better that you ever could be!

I teach 3rd grade. So my students are a bit more independant. (Sometimes!) I had great wieghtloss before my surgery, now it is slowing down. But that is okay, better to have a little loss than none at all. My doctor is happy with it, so I am too.

I would love to work an extended year. We have one school in our district that has a balanced calendar, and there might be a first grade opening there next year, so who knows!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
