I am having severe pain on my left side. In three different spots. I had my surgery done 19 days ago and I started to have pain in my stomach about 4 inches to the left of my belly button last night. Right now, I am having a severe sharp pain on the left side of my stomach about half way down. And every now and then today, I have got the same kind of pain in my left colar bone area. Any ideas what this might be. I called my doctor and they scheduled me for a upper GI tomorrow morning. But if this pain gets any worse, I might be at the emergency room tonight.

The Upper GI came out good. They said that everything was doing what it was supposed to be doing. They said that the only thing they thought would be causing the pain in my shoulder and stomach is trapped gas. I don't know what it is, but it sure hurts really bad. It was kind of neat to see the band and everything on the x ray machine while I was drinking the barium.

Well, it is good to know that you are okay except for the pain. Hopefully that will go away soon. A lot of people say that walking A LOT helps it to go away. I sure hope I don't experience this bad pain when I get banded.

The pain that you are feeling if caused by a nerve that is actually located near the banding location but radiates in the left shoulder area... I am going on my 5th year living with the band. Lay on your left side and let the gas pass. You will have instant relief...I've been there SEVERAL times.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
