2 weeks post op...is it okay to exercise

Recommended Posts

I am feeling great. My doc said it was okay to exercise, just wanted to know if anyone else's doctor says the same. Thanks for your input.

how early can you exercise? I am 6 days post op and I really want to get on the treadmill. The only problem is that my steril strips are still on. Any ideas?

I am two weeks post-op. My doctor said anything but contact sports (football, rugby, etc.) is okay. I have been walking between 1 and 4 miles a day depending on how I feel. I have a treadmill and use that sometimes and I also go for walks in my neighborhood. I haven't tried going to the gym yet but I have approval to do it whenever I want. I feel really good when I walk 3 or 4 miles a day. One day I pushed it when I knew I didn't feel very good and ended up having to call my husband from my cell to come get me. No problems other than that.

Ok, of course I am not a Dr. but when mine told me, first 4 weeks, walking was fine, near the end, swimming was ok, but no lifting, weights, etc. I mean you are still healing inside and want your port and band sutures to stabilize and heal well in place so your port does not tilt or flip. You are still also a little swollen inside and strenuous exercise the first few weeks could irritate you. I would use common sense and stick with walkng, swimimng (if outside healed) til you have your first post op check up/fill. But that is just my opinion based on the way I understood my instructions. Be careful out there. OK

I agree with Sugrbear

I was told walking until 6 weeks post op then i could go for "working out" lifting weights type stuff .

Personally i dont know that i would do anything more than walking until at least 4 weeks .

at 2 weeks i dont think your healed enough and I think you risk hurting something , but that's just my opinion ?

OH I was also told not to lift anything over 20 pds for the first 6 weeks.

Hi,

I asked right after surgery when I would be able to do some stretch exercise and other exercise I need to do for my back. The Dr. said start tomorrow. I didn't of course, or sore and scared. Surgery 5/6 and did them for the first time today. This was just my case anyway.

This site is going to be (is) invaluable in the weeks and months to come. It's great that there is somewhere we can all go for encouragement and advice from people who have been there!

Have a great day and weekend!

I was back at Curves 12 days post op. I skipped a couple of the machines that work the abdominal muscles really hard but other that that everything was fine. I didn't do those two machines until 6 weeks post-op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
