RAS_STI 1 Posted May 12, 2008 is that normal? i went into the hospital at 348lbs. after surgery, and the IV's, i was up to 353. this morning i weighed in at 328. I know that at least 5lbs of that is Water weight from the IV's...but is that normal? i don't feel run down. i've been pretty good with my Protein Drinks (at least 1 a day - i hate the things). other than that - days 2-5 were broth, water, Jello and Protein. days 6 and 7 i introduced cottage cheese and yogurt and iced tea. i have my post opp meeting in two days, i'll ask them then. just kinda concerned that my body is eating muscle as well as fat. any thoughts? Pnw_Red 2 Posted May 12, 2008 I lost 15 pounds the first ten days, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I had already lost 35 pounds BEFORE surgery too. If you're feeling ok, and have no medical concerns, I'd say enjoy the loss and just be aware that it will slow down once you start food!

plain 12 Posted May 13, 2008 Ras, it's unlikely that you're losing lean muscle this early on. That is an incredible amount of weight to lose. Use it as a catapult to launch your "from no on" program! Like Jack said, the rate of weight loss will eventually slow down, so enjoy it now. When the docs clear you for a little more vigorous exercise, might I recommend body weight exercises? Good for keeping lean muscle, and if you do them in a "circuit" you can realize cardiovascular benefit as well. They're a favorite of mine!
