Are you taking pills?

Recommended Posts

Yes, another question from me.

I would like to know if people are allowed to take pills? My surgeon is having me crush everything or take in liquid form. I hate it and am wondering if I'm alone.

Yes. I take all my meds as pills. They required a chewable multi for the first 3 weeks but that has been lifted now too. After surgery, I went right back on all my pills.

When is/was your surgery?

My surgery was the 30th. I don't mind the liquid multi- I put in in cranberry juice and it's a Fluid. Tastes like a non alcoholic mai tai.

But I want to go back to my reflux med protonix. not even a big pill and cutable. I cannot figure out why the surgeon is so against the small pills.

How fast did you go back to pills, and how big were they?

Thanks-Gwenn

The largest one I take is AllegraD. Its about 3/4 inch long, 1/4 inch wide and 3/8 inch thick. I restarted my pills the day after surgery. Coumadin (round about 1/4"), Lisinopril (oval about 3/8" x 1/4"), Voltaren (round about 3/8") and the aforementioned AllegraD. I still use the chewable Vitamin.... no sense throwing them away but will switch to regular pills once they are gone.

I started back on pills after four weeks post-surgery. I waited until all the minor aches and pains went away from the surgery (minor pain at the incisions was the last pain that I felt). Everything stays down with no discomfort. Your doctor is just being causious.

I had to get back on my allergy meds.. My eyes were killing me! Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
