So Were U Scared To Bend Over, Exercise, etc.

Recommended Posts

Slip out of place, come unstitched, etc. To give you an idea---- think of someone who just had a Tummy Tuck and they go to the gym for the first time when the Dr. gives clearance. I would guess that some people might be afraid to do that first pull up.

My question has nothing to do with not wanting to exercise- it's just having a foreign object in my body and then doing normal things. Again, I think I will be walking around stiff for a while.

People who have a tt are having muscles tightened and pieces cut apart and sewn together again. That isn't the case with banding.

There is no reason to walk around stiff, it isn't going to protect your band anyway. ;o)

Shocking, eh? ;o)

The post op diet is what is going to make a difference. Don't cheat. But feel free to bend over, run, jump, and not walk stiff while drinking your liquids. Heh....

I was banded in February and I currently work out with a personal trainer, do ballet twice a week, and ride my horse 2-3 days a week.

And yes, my port does still hurt sometimes when I am very active. In fact I got a fill today and was asking about it. The PA who does my fills says it will be a while before it is not sore, but my body will eventually encapsulate(?) it and I won't notice it anymore.

So don't be afraid to do whatever you want. The small amount of pain is worth it.

that's really good to hear. because i had the same question. i was wondering how long after, you can start moving, exercising, not having to worry about messing it up. no one wants to go back into surgery if it slips, or errodes, (whatever that means lol) or,..if your port messes up. i was even wondering if the tube inside you would be long enough. like...what if i got to the size when i wanted to do something crazy, i would be scared of trying to contort or stretch and the cord would come loose inside or something lol. those things freak me out. i don't want ANYTHING to move. but I want to move. you know? this is actually my biggest question. and everyone here is saying that you can still do these things, but it will be SORE because the body isn't used to it yet. which is a cool thing to hear. the pain is from soreness...and newness...and not from "OMG i think it pulled and it's moving" lol. or something along those lines.

plus...watching the movie of the surgery also helped because i saw that they stitched around it. (the band). but i didn't see the port being stitched in. lol.

NOW...since reading ppl stories on here, i read that you shouldn't throw up or sneeze after surgery, so you won't mess the band up. holy moly! lol. with my luck, worrying about something will bring it to happen. SO, i am just going to chill out hahah. heck...i don't even know that i am a candidate yet. hahhahaha.

Sneezing and hiccups are natural Your really not going to mess something up by doing either...It might ach a bit if you do them the first few days after surgery. But that is natural. You should definitly avoid throwing up...at all costs. But That is just because you dont just do it once.

As for the excercising and being stiff. Honestly I dont even think about my port or band except for eatting and getting fills. I dont feel it, I dont notice it. I notice the incision at times because mine still has a ridge on it. and I just rub it when I am reading or watching a movie. Weird I know.

But just move arround. The less you think about it the better off you will be. It is secure. Surgins dont want to have to go back in and fix things so it is going to be secure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
