I have that same kind of pain. My doc doesn't think it's from the band. It comes and goes. Does yours do that?

I was banded on October 23, 2007 and have lost 70 pounds. My primary doctor ordered Cat Scan on my abdomen; nothing wrong with liver, etc. The doctor who put in band wants me to have an ultrasound of my gall bladder. He said sometimes people who have been banded and lose a lot of weight develop gall stones. Anybody heard of that?

It is gas pain.

I have had it the whole time since I was banded in Aug. 07.

I believe that the gas gets "stuck" in the larger part of the stomach below the banding. Sometimes it kind of even burns and hurts.

I do not know what in the world makes us banders have this awful gas but it seems as though it is common.

I stopped almost all dairy except for a little hard cheese.

Switched to plain soy milk. This has helped a lot but there is still gas.

My family is really sick of my gas problems!

Yes, the gallstones are extra common.

Especially from the fast weight loss.

I think it's from gallstones or your gallbladder acting up. When I lost 100 lbs 10 years ago I had these horrific pains at times. Sharp, deep, stabbing pains. I'd actually have to go lay down on a co-workers office floor and stretch out to get the pain to subside. The pain did eventually go away. IMHO I think it's from weight loss and a low fat diet, but I'm not a doctor.

I had the same sort of pain about 4 weeks post op. I called and spoke to the dietician. She sugessted that we move to the next phase of food and that I keep a better eye on exactly how much I am eating. The pain can be caused from under and over eating. Mine was from under. I added cheese sticks and more fluids and it has helped greatly.

As for the gallbladder am going to check this very soon ! but as far as i know ( and since am a Nurse) the gallbladder pain could be accopmanied by nausea , vomiting and some shoulder pain!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
