Hi everyone! My name is Jodi, I have been lurking on this site for a month or so and finally decided to become a member. I am 38 yo female from Virginia.

I have been going through the process of getting the lap band surgery for about a month now. I have done the psych eval, the barium swallow and the nutrition class. Just got a letter on Friday from my insurance company approving the surgery :) No questions asked, no hoops to jump through...nothing! I was pleasantly surprised by this because I am just within the guidlines for BMI (40) and I do not have any comorbid conditions (yet). I was prepared to be a self-pay if necessary but it turns out I will pay 20% out of pocket which is a huge relief.

My surgery is scheduled for the 30th of this month and I am excited and nervous. I will start my Liquid Protein diet on the 16th. My surgeon requires two weeks liquid protien diet before, two weeks liquid Protein after, two weeks puree then slowly introduce solid.

Just thought I would introduce myself.

Kim,

I agree with the "one meal at a time" view, it is gonna be tough. I did all of my shopping over the weekend and have my liquid products all ready...four more days to get in all my favorite foods.

Ashlee,

I am in Northern Virginia near Dulles Airport. My surgeon is Dr. Eric Pinnar in Reston.

Hi and welcome to LBT. Congratulations on getting your date. Glad things went so easily for you. Hopefully the rest of the process will be just as easy and painless.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
