I have to be at the hosp. at 6am in the morning. I just want to say thank you to everyone on here that posts things to help us, the unbanded. I also want to say thank you to all that have sent me thoughtful messages about different things I have gone through. I can't wait to walk through the bandsters door. I am about to pack a bag.....tell me what helped you while you were in the hosp. Again thank you for all your help!!!!

Hi Holly, how exciting! The only thing I would suggest is loose fitting clothing. The port site will be sore. I remember how it was for me nearly 2 years ago. You will love your band. Good luck tomorrow.

I've been saving a file of suggestions for when my date comes up. Not all may apply to you, but here they are:

Are you staying overnight?

Comfy jama's, loose fitting

chapstick

bottled Water to sip on, I like my flavored with crystal light packets or celestial seasonings zinger packets

slip on shoes so you don't have to bend over to put them on or tie them

I wore my jamas home

some people suggest a pillow for the ride home to hold across one's stomach

gas-x

I didn't stay overnight, I think I was only there for about 3 hours but

I wore loose sweats and slippers. After the surgery mu husband helped

me back into my sweats and slipped my feet in my slippers and headed

back to the hotel. I did surgery in a different city from where I lived

and then flew home the following day, also in my sweats and slippers.

Chap-stick! Comfy clothes, a pillow to hold against your abdomen. Easy slip on shoes. Some gas-x, make sure you have your pain prescription filled(mine gave it to me before hand). A comfy chair to get in when you get home, as laying down might be hard(it was for me, the first 3 days.) Lots of broth at home to sip on, and water(I got so sick of sweet stuff). Though popsicles will become your new friend the first few weeks. I am drawing a blank, I am sure others will remember more.

I also took along some of those thermal things that become warm when

they're exposed to air. I got the kind for the back of the neck that have

adhesive so they stick to the skin. When I had shoulder pain, I stuck one

of those over the aching place, and it allowed me more freedom that a

heating pad. I could go anywhere with my "heating pad" on my shoulder. I

also took my Magic Bullet, a mug, a spoon, and a bowl so I could fix myselfsoup at the motel. There was a microwave in the room. I'd make sure they have one in the room where you stay.

Good luck!

Orea

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
