Desperate for a Dr. anywhere near Amarillo Tx

Recommended Posts

I am in search of a Dr anywhere within a 6 hour radious of Amarillo Tx that takes Aetna. I have waited 8 months for Dr Crum here in Amarillo. I AM DONE WAITING!! It took me 3 and a half months to get an appt, the day of the appt, it was canceled due to emergency. I called, emailed and faxd everyday for a month to get another appt. Never got an answer. A friend of mine who had recently had gastric bypass, begged me to go to the Meeting they were having about the concerns of everyone that had been left in the dirt. I go, and Dr Crum asked me later on that evening if I really wanted to begin the process. He told me to show up the Thursday after christmas and he would see me. I knew by this time that he was trying to go on his own and having difficulty with TT gettig released. He told me that by Feb he would be up and running and we could go from there. It is now MAY and he still cannot practice. :tt1:

I need a Dr in this area that takes Aetna insurance. Can anyone PLEASE help me? I am at my wits end.

One thing you can do is contact your insurance co. and tell them you are getting worse by the day and need to see a doctor NOW. Since the doctor that has Aetna can't see you for so long, you want a doctor who can see you right away. You can get special approval for that. Just be aggressive Good luck to you.

Hi Amatxlatino,

I live in the Amarillo area. I have Aetna Ins. I was approved for Dr Warnock in Wichita Falls, Tx[31/2 hrs from AMA]. The ins. is IN NETWORK. Look Him up on the Obesityhelp forums. He has been doing the band for 2+ years. My surgery is not schelduled yet but I have my final Nutrition class on the 16th of May. Dr. W has a group support meeting in Amarillo the 1st Sat of the month at 1:00 PM, Buchanan St public library 2nd floor. Next one is June 7th. Maybe I'll see you there. Hope this helps.

I'm also a nurse & have cared for Dr. Crums pts At NWTHS. LOOK him up on the same web pg as Dr. Warnock. Good luck, BBRN

This is Dr. Warnocks web site

Bariatrics of Texas - About Us - Bariatric Surgery

There is also A Dr. May in Wichita Falls. I can't find any research on him but have visited with someone who works closely with him who spoke highly of him. He is the Head of the Bariatric surgery center at the Hospital which is a Center of Exellence. You might check him out too. Again Good luck. BBRN

I live in Amarillo, but am using Dr. Provost in Denton for my surgery. I am looking for a support group here in town. Does anyone know of one that meets on a regular basis?

Joan

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
