Banded 5/7 anyone else out there close to me?

Hey Everyone! Seems like we are feeling about the same...sore around port etc.... One thing that helped me in the clear liquid and full liquid stage was making homemade broth. Just take some chicken pieces and/or I used some beef Soup bones and added a package of stew meat to it with a couple diced onions, 4-5 ribs of chopped up celery and chopped carrots. Cover with Water and simmer 1-2 hours and season with pepper, garlic powder or whatever your taste is. I loved the broth! And used the chicken with some broth and made chicken and dumplings for the kids one day and used the beef and added some vegetables to make them vegetable beef Soup. The homemade broth really satisfied me and was so easy. Now that I am in the soft food stage some ideas my friend (we were banded the same day) came up with was since we can have very "wet" tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey salad and egg salad was to make it very wet with the mayo and keep containers with that already prepared in the fridge. So for lunch we had a spoonful of tuna salad, egg salad along with a piece of provolone cheese and a few little rings of the mild banana peppers. OH WHAT A DELICIOUS FEAST it is!

Part of the hard part seems to be retraining ourselves to eat slower, small bites, chew, chew, chew and for us, our Dr says no drinking 10 minutes before eatting and no drinking for 20 minutes after eatting. That is taking a bit of concentration to get used to. :thumbup:Good Luck to everyone. :thumbup:And please post your tips or recipe ideas too.

FYI: My doc said to stay full longer by keeping food in the pouch, you should wait well over and hour even 2 before you drink anything. It will just wash everything out of the pouch, therefore defeating the purpose of the band.

I think I've got this all figured out now. All that pain in chest area etc was gas, it wasn't that I was full after 1 spoonful of liquid....just filled with gas. Using those gas-x put on your tongue tape things really helped, I think I used the maximum per day 8 for the first 4 days. Plus walking helped.

Now on day 11 and feel great. Started back to work today. I'm on the baby food stage with first appt with doc on Wed. As soon as I moved to baby food consistency it slowed to less than a lb a day.

The biggest tip I have for all of you is getting all your liquid Protein in. I hated the shakes, not a big sweets person so I found these Protein bullets on line and they deliver 47 grams in 1 shot. I pour it into a 20 oz bottle fill with Water and sip on it until gone over a few hours then all my protein is in for the day and anything else I have is just gravy towards the 50+ supposed to get. As soon as I started to do that my energy came back and I feel so much better.

HOpe it works. Now for my question, those of you that have lost 50lbs plus what is your daily food intake routine? Need some tips...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
