:eek:Hi. I just received by my band a week and a half ago. I feel really good today but the last week and a half have been tough. Physically, my only pain is the port site. Very normal I am told. Psycologically, I went through some tough times. I wanted to take it out. Also, very normal I am told. Now, I am adding back in food and feeling much better. Hang in there to all who may feel the same. Things will get better! I think I need my band tightened when I go for my check-up because I am not as full as I was told. I am losing weight though but I think I have the ability to eat more than I should. Best of luck to all out there who are going through this. I hope you have a lot of support at home because that is essential. No one should do this alone. It is very hard. Not a miracle cure, just a tool and you need the support. Make sure you have the best doctors who have done hundreds of these. I am blessed to live near Boston and have the best in the world right at my finger tips. Be well, and peace!

Hi and welcome to LBT! Did you have any fill at surgery time? If not, any restriction you felt after surgery will diminish as you heal and the swelling goes down. Just let your doctor know you are feeling hungry when you go in for that check-up. It sounds like you are doing well dealing with "bander hell". Keep up the good work!

i was banded last Tuesday. 5/6/08. I was in a lot of pain after the surgury. When I got home I was a MESS. I thought I did the worst thing possible. I think i was VERY depressed from all the pain meds. Since yesturday soemthing just snapped and I seem to feel better physically and mentally. What kind of foods have you been able to incorporate. Today was my first day that I was able to move on to pureed. ie: cottage cheese, tuna, eggs chopped. Obviously very small portions. I am also drinking 1 Atkins shake per day. My band was not filled at all during the surgery was yours???

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
