Is it possible to chew too much?

Recommended Posts

It use to be that I could eat half a cup of my meal and feel full. But over the past couple of months or so I am not feeling even the slightest bit of tightness after eating half a turkey sandwich on wheat and half a cup of salad for lunch.< /p>

I had a fill a couple of weeks ago but I still feel the same. I think my band has been filled to the point the doctor doesn't want to put too much more in. Do you think you can chew your food too much so that it just passes through?

Not sure you can chew too much ever really. But I would think it could pass through easier because you've now made it a mushy by chewing so much. I do know that fills are not a science so...is there a chance when your doc withdraws the Fluid to see how much is in there prior to filling that he's putting back in the same amount or so little more that you're not noticing the fill?

I can be honest with you in saying I just had a fill last month and my doc put in literally .75cc more and yet I feel I can eat half a sandwich..or a whole one depending on how long I take and what it is. Yes...at night I do sometimes get reflux so I"m afraid to tighten it more. Finicky bands for sure sometimes. I wish I could help you more but, at least you know you're not alone. I think the key is to stop eating when you no longer feel hungry not necessarily when you feel full....definately two different feelings :tt1:

Good luck

Sherry, you are absolutely right. I am still fighting that demon. I think we have felt that full feeling for soooo long, we still think we need to feel that way. I can honestly say I am getting better on this, but I still struggle with it everyday.

You know, I've never really been a big fan of measuring food, but it is something I have considered to start doing religiously here lately.

I have wondered the same thing. I have never PB'ed or gotten stuck and I have been a stickler for chewing my food until it's pretty much liquid (mainly because I worry about doing harm to my band). Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but I have also wondered about it too.

This is an interesting question! I've wondered that, if I chew sometimes will it make it mushy and make it easier for too much to go down. I try to keep it in mind, and just not get too full. I also eye-ball what I'm eating and if I think I've eaten more than I should for a normal portion, I stop.

It's definitely been a challenge, though - and thanks for bringing it up. I think the main key is awareness.

I don't think its possible to chew "too much"... You should definitely tell your Dr. what portion size you are eating and he/she should adjust accordingly.

My band is really finicky. Yesterday I ate a small chicken soft taco for dinner and had no problem. However, the day before I could only eat 1/2 of the same thing. It just depends on the day for me.... (and the time).

I don't think so. I chew my food til there's nothing left and still get that full feeling.

Sounds like you need a small adjustment. Even 0.1 cc can make a difference once you are well adjusted.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
