I had surgery on Thursday. My doctor made us do no more that 1oz. in 15 minutes the day of, but know I dont know how much I can drink. I feel kinda full, but I think it may be gas. I am just soooo afraid to vomit, I dont want to overdo it. But I also frrl like I am going to get dehydrated if I dont get something in me. So, my question is, After two days, how much could you drink at one time? Could you handle thin grits or mashed potatos? Someone please help!! Its Saturday so there is nobody at my Dr.s office!! Thanks!!

Talked to dr. office yesterday and the only thing they said was i could try Protein Shake or v8 to see if i ccan tolerate it. I am having some pain in my throat and heaviness in my chest I hope that is normal... Keep me updated on your progress and Good Luck to you!

I was banded on wednesday and chocolate milk has become my new best friend lol, i was told to get in 64 oz of liquid, and 60 grams of Protein a day so with 1% chocolate milk i am getting both, I am able to sip about 16 oz over a course of a half hour or so...I too had that heavy feeling in my chest yesterday, but i took a gas-x strip and made myself burp as much as i could to get the feeling to go away..so far so good...i can do Protein Shakes, i find that they seem more filling if i freeze them and eat them like they are ice cream, maybe its mental lol i also made up a bowl of sf pudding with 2 scoops of Protein Powder added so i could feel like i was actually eating something rather than drinking all the time...cant have mushie food (mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, etc) for 2 more weeks.....been walking as much as possible although i know i havent been getting in the 30 minutes a day that the dr wants, but working up to it, seems to make the soreness better each day...hope this helps ya out

Hi, to you all. I was banded Wednesday & all of these same things have been running through my mind. I just know I can only go very slow...micro baby sips I call them....and the best advice I can give is listen to your body.. that uncomfortable pressure, any pain..all signs to slow down & back off a bit.

I was interested to read that your Dr said clear liquids for 2 wks as I was told clear liquids only in the hospital (Surgery was Wed morning & went home about noon on Thurs). I was then told to move to full liquids...milk (1% or skim, FF yogurt, reduced fat cream Soups, etc) & was really only able to manage this yesterday. Again, just trust yourself, & if anything hurts or is very uncomfortable..STOP & WAIT. Let some time pass & then try again later...

I was banded on April 28th so I'm about 12 days out. In the hospital, I was given a Protein Drink along with broth and was told to eat as much as i could. Since then, I'm supposed to get in 60 - 80gms of Protein (Slim Fast low carb) and 64 oz. of clear liquids. I was easily able to drink 3 Slim Fasts a day starting on about day 2. Make sure you're getting your protein. The drs. office said to make sure when you choose your shakes, that you're choosing Meal Replacement shakes like Opti Fast, Slim Fast and not meal suppliment shakes like most of them are. The meal relacement shakes will have all of the Vitamin and minerals you need. Wayoflife, you said that you're on clear liquids for 2 weeks. That sounds like a long time without protein. Good luck everyone.

My diet says that I can have mashed potatos as long as they are thin. I just ate about a tablespoon full. I added beef broth to thin them out. I got full really fast, but atleast I have something in my stomach. I Plan to do the same about supper time, I just dont want to overdo it. Yet at the same time I dont want to get dehydrated. I dont know who said they had to be on clear liquids, thats just at the hospital.

i am sooo happy to hear that other people are in the same boat as I. I was banded on Tuesday May6th in NYC at Weill Cornell. Only clear liquids in the hospital. Today I was ablt to move on to mushie foods. For Breakfast I had 1 tablespoon uncooked cram of wheat w/ 2/3 cup skim milk. For lunch I had the snack size container of cottage cheese and for dinner I am going to have 1 tablespoon of mashed potatoes with a very soft boiled egg. Thats the kind of things I was advised to eat. Also, tuna, salmon etc. Did anyone have major second thoughts right after the surgery. I was very sad for the first 3-4 days. Today i am feeling much better. Hoep to hear back form people in the same postion.

I was sad and scared for the first few days after surgery. I saw a steak in the freezer and almost started crying thinking that I may never have that again. I kept thinking "I hope this is worth it." I'm about 12 days out now and feeling better but am still sad over the foods I may never have again-steak, salads, Pasta. I've heard that a lot of people have trouble with these.

These are the instructions i was given upon discharge.

One ounce of full liquids every 15 min. while awake for a total of 64 ounces. 16- 24 ounces of that should be protien. You need to have between 40-60 grams of protien per day.

Well, I know for myself that I was told to drink at least 60-80oz. of Clear Liquids for 2 weeks that included sf/ice pops. Also, I had to make sure that I got in some form of Protein (60 -80 grams) Keep trying your dr. They should be able to tell you what to do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
