Dr Ross McMahon, Swedish Hospital, Seattle, WA

Recommended Posts

Hey all, for anyone considering LapBand surgery in Seattle, I just wanted to take a moment and throw out a recommendation for Dr Ross McMahon at Swedish Hospital's Bariatric Center in Seattle.

The girls in his office are really great - he's got a top-notch nutritionist, and a lady who's great with dealing with the insurance companies. The lady who oversees the department is very nice and supportive, and really the whole office staff is just super cool and makes you feel really good about your decision. They don't look down on you the way I've heard some doctors do and they really do everything they can to help support you.

Also, they don't make you feel like they're trying to rush you in and out as fast as they can. Everyone on staff does their best to make themselves available, answering emails, returning calls, and will always take the time to talk and answer questions for as long as you want.

Dr McMahon himself is a really nice guy. I think he's a bit overly thorough in all the pre-op testing he makes you go through, but he really does care about trying to make sure you're in the best shape possible for surgery. And if you aren't in good shape, he at least wants to know so he's better prepared to do a good job ahead of time.

Anyway, if anyone is looking for a good doctor in Seattle, Dr McMahon is my first recommendation (I've met with a few lap band doctors in the area, and he was by far my favorite).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
