Hunger and Fill Question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 4/24 and I've lost 21 lbs. and have been feeling great! Some shoulder pain still...but much better than it was. The last few days I've felt hungry for the first time and it is hard. Obviously I have had problems with food in the past and that nagging desire to indulge is hard to resist. Here's my question...I get my first fill on 5/28 and I am wondering how different I will feel after it regarding the hunger. I'm not feeling full right now after eating and I'm looking for some insight as to how I'll feel after the fill. Thanks so much!

I was banded March 4, and just got my second fill yesterday. Right now I am full on oatmeal! I'm pretty tight, so I'm trying to stick to mushy-type foods for right now. I get a little hungry, but I fill up quickly. I love the release of constantly thinking about and wanting food! I hope this feeling lasts and lasts! Good luck. SS

i was banded on 04/28/08 and i am starting to feel hungry at times myself. i was wondering if it was because i have not been drinking all the Protein Shakes. I know that is part of the diet plan for the first few weeks, but.... since i have stopped the gas has gone away and i feel much better. i try and drink more Water and have been living on oatmeal and soup.. i do not get my first fill until June 19th...

I was banded April 1 and just on the 8th of May got my first fill of 1cc. Right before that I was so loose I could chug Water no problem and it was scarry to see my appitiet increasing( yes I too had a couple of indescressions) Now I would say my fullness is about what it was maybe the 3rd week post op. Sipping water again and getting full on about 3/4 c Soup. (they put me on liquids for 3 days after my fill) They told me that in 3 weeks if I notice an increase again in the amout of recommended food an experience no loss for more than 2 weeks to come in for another fill. I will see how it all plays out. I realize it may take a few fills to get it right.

Thanks for all your information! I am looking so forward to starting my fills! Anyone else still have lingering shoulder/gas pain?

I am on post op day 4 and last night I finally felt the shoulder/back pain. I was laying in the recliner so I didn't feel much and it passed as soon as I passed gas. I asked my brother to pick me up a heating pad so that if it comes stronger I can fight it.

Take it easy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
