I m very excited to be getting banded on Thursday, may 15. My big fear is that awful feeling right as you wake up after surgery. What were your experiences like? would it be silly to tell dr. about this fear?

I had a pill called EMEND that I took the night before my surgery. It's normally given to Chemo patients to kill the nausea. I also told the anethesialogist that I'm very sensitive to the drugs normally used. They gave me preop meds (versed) and something else for the surgery. I was very groggy when they wheeled me back to my room, but no nausea at all. NONE! That's a first for me!

To beat the grogginess, as soon as you can, with help, walk, walk, walk. It will make the grogginess pass very quickly. I made 1 circuit around the floor and was 100% better.

I'm sorry that this comes so late but I just saw your post. I hope it helps you and anybody else who is pre-band.

Congrats and welcome to BandLand!

My experience, I woke up in pain and the meds they were giving me didn't do the job so they had to call the Dr. who checked on me and I told him to "get me out of pain or when I was better I'd hunt him down and show him real pain" it worked.... cause he gave me a shot that knocked me out, when I woke there was no pain. After that I never took any pain meds other than a bit of Tylenol at home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
