Can I still have surgery if it's that time of the month?

Recommended Posts

I have my surgery date and in my excitment didn't realize till today that there is a good posibility that it will be that time of the month around my surgery date. Does anyone know if they will cancel or reschedual the surgery? Everyone is gone for the weekend at the doctors office and it is driving me crazy to know.

Thanks, you all are the best!

I started the same day that I went in for my surgery and that didn't stop them from doing it, you should be okay.

I had my surgery at that time. I had to get up through out the night to change, but I think that it helped my recovery. The nurses said I did really well.

It was "that time" for me as well. The docs didn't care! I agree that the getting up probably helped with recovery! Good Luck!

Same here! I was on my period during my surgery and I told the nurse but she said it didn't matter. I had on a tampon. She said the surgery would last at the most 1 hour and 30 min assuming there were no complications. He was done in about 65 mins. Don't worry:) Everything will be fine.

Best wishes to you and yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was supposed to get my period the week before my surgery. each day passed and it never came. i was so worried to wake up the day of my surgery and have it but *knock on wood* it waited until the next day when i was at home.

the nurse did ask me before my surgery if i was having my period and if i had a tampon in. just be honest... they see it all the time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
