Hello Everyone,

I am six days post op and can't keep anything inside me. Is diarrhea to be expected post surgery?

Normal. Especially with the high Protein shake/liquid diet. You'll go from watery (sorry) to nothing. Check if your doctor is ok with metamucil powder. Even with that, took over a month after surgery to "normalize", and that will depend on you dr prescribed after surgery diet.

Hello

I have been banded since Apr 23rd and I did have diarrea for the first 8 days. I bought some LiquaFiber and once I started taking that, my bowel movements returned. No worries you will be fine but try to get some Fiber.

I had to take this horrible licorice tasting drink when they did my post op x-ray. I was told to expect this will give you the runs big time.

It will clear itself up. Just make sure you keep your Water intake up.

Hi to all you fellow banders out there.

All I can say is "Thank goodness for this website"!!

I am 10 days post-band & for the last 5 days I have suffered from a reallly bad tummy upset. I'd not read anything on this subject anywhere else & was really starting to panic.

My major concern was with the band slipping! They placed sooooo much emphasis on not eating things for the first couple of weeks that would make your stomach muscles move, so as not to break the stitches keeping the band in place. I'm sure that my stomach must have been moving like a washing machine, the feelings this tummy upset has generated!!

Can anyone put my mind at rest on a couple of further points? Up until Thursday, I felt a real restriction when taking my liquids, even small sips of liquid seem to stick in my throat, but since yesterday morning, the fluids have gone down ok. Is this just the swelling in my stomach going down & the fluids passing through more easily or is this a sign that something is wrong with the band?

Lastly, my wounds don't seem to be healing at all, not even the hole in the back of my hand from the drip, which is only small. I have changed the dressings & kept them clean & dry, they don't seem to be infected or anything, but I'm worried that the stitches will have dissolved & the wounds aren't closing up. Is this normal & is there anything I can do or take to speed up my bodies healing process?

I've emailed the hospital for their views on the above, but with it being the weekend, I don't expect I'll hear anything till monday, earliest.

Many thanks, in ancticipation!

Suzi ;0)

I came on this website intending to ask this question, because I had my surgery on the 5th and have been having the same problem. Thanks so much for the info, it has put my mind at ease and makes waiting for the nurse to call back more tolerable!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
