I got my surgery date of May 23. I was wondering how many of you are planning an overnight stay. I know that a lot of the surgeries are outpatient. How many of you would have preferred to have the overnight stay. I still have a hard time talking with the drs office, they don't get back very quickly if at all. I'm trying to check so see if I can have the overnight stay. I can't wait...

I will be staying overnight. My doctor said the if the ins. is going to pay it then he is going to take it....so it requires an overnight stay. Good luck to you!!!!

i chose to stay overnight because i've never had surgery before and wanted to make sure i had access to the stronger pain meds before going home. i can't really say it was worth it because the nurses come in every 2 hours to take vitals but the stay was included in my payment.

My doctor requires an overnight stay. I think it's better to stay overnight anyway.

Wish you luck!

I had asked to spend the night because we lived so far from the hospital and because I had heart trouble, etc.......... the surgeon said he would arrange it if that's what I still wanted after the surgery. However.....after it was over, I felt so well that I would have felt silly lying in a hospital bed. So we drove 2 hrs back home and I haven't slowed down yet. I know not everyone has as easy a time as I did but most people do go home the same day. You need to do what feels right for you....

I will be banded on June 10th and will have to stay overnight, I was told that Tricare requires it.

I am happy about it, I tend to worry alot and will feel more comfortable knowing that if something should happen I will already be at the hospital since I live almost two hours from it. I have heard about after effects from anesthesia in some people.

Good luck!

Hi Sueaz:

I recommend an overnight stay. My doctor requires one. However, I had issues with nausea that would have been a real problem if I had been sent home the first night. Good news about losing weight though because I had very little nausea when I had my gallbladder out a couple of weeks ago. I asked about this, and my doctor said that heavier people have more issues with anesthesia and nausea.

Good luck. Best thing I've done for myself in the past 20 years.

Sue

I hadn't planned to stay overnight, but ended up doing just that. I had a lot more discomfort that i was expecting and it turns out it was mainly because of the shoulder pain caused by the hiatal hernia that the doctor fixed during surgery. Since insurance was paying i just thought i would sleep better in their adjustable bed than i would have trying to prop myself up with pillows at home. I think i made a good choice.

Incidentally, i did not know at the time that the pain was from the hiatal hernia part. Frankly, i didn't even know they had done the hernia correction until my first post-op appt. Sure, they told my husband, but did he share that detail with me. Nope! Stupid husband. His excuse? "Not good with details". Yes, this is the man i love.

I didn't stay in the hospital but wish I had. Got home (2 1/2 hrs from hospital) couldn't urinate so my PCP had to put in a catheter, dealing with it at home was a pain.

I will have to stay over night also. I don't mind because if I have any problems or questions what better pace to be? I am becoming nervous as the time grows near and this is one worry I won't have to be concerned with.

I was banded on April 30th and my doctor required that I stayed overnight which was a good thing since I was having such a bad reaction to the anesthesia. Every 4hrs the nurses would stop by to give me the nausea medication and not to mention the pain meds.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
