slimm2be 0 Posted May 8, 2008 I am new to this site. I was banded on May 5, 2008 4 days so far on clear liquid diet 10 pounds lost. I am feeling hungry not eating anything just doing Clear liquids. Any advice on what else I can have besides Jello, broth crystal light and Water.< /p> Weight date of surgery 260 current weight 250 goal weight
NukeChik 1 Posted May 8, 2008 I found wonton Soup absolutely delightful! Just eat the broth, not the wontons.
KelinTx 1 Posted May 8, 2008 sugar free ice pops helped me through the liquid phase
elle 1 Posted May 8, 2008 My doctor calls it 'thin liquids' not clear. You should clarify this with your doctor. I was allowed to drink the Protein Shakes watered down. I added half Water or milk and thinned it. Protein shakes can satisfy your hunger longer. I also had diluted sugar free cocoa.
honeysucklelee 0 Posted May 8, 2008 Check with your Dr. first but after my banding I only had to be on clear liquid the day of and the day after. For the next two weeks I was able to eat full liquids. (yogurt, cream soups-strained, pudding, applesauce). See if this is OK with your dr and you should feel more satisfied. hairyday 0 Posted May 8, 2008 Hi Slim2be, I was banded May 5th also. I was on a liquid diet for two weeks before my surgery so by the time I had my surgery I thought it would be a breeze to be on thin liquids, not so. Can't wait to get to mushy food. My dr. does let me have Protein Shakes thinned, Tomato Soup diluted, but you do need to ask your Dr. to clarify what he means by clear. Curious
slimm2be 0 Posted May 8, 2008 Thank you everyone for the quick responses. I think I will call my doctor tomorrow. It is so hard especially with me having kids and my husband that are eating all these good regular foods every day. I have a follow up on tuesday but that is 5 more days from today i would love to start my apple sauce skim milk and Protein Shakes
slimm2be 0 Posted May 8, 2008 that is a good idea wonton Soup. the broth in that is very clear

slimm2be 0 Posted May 8, 2008 I haven't taken any pain meds at all since I have been home. I have a great tolerance for pain. the gas was horrible, I do walk alot and purchased some gas x strips yesterday. i keep a heating pad on my back and belly which seems to help me. I was having a lot of doubts the first 2 days I was home, thinking to my self WHAT HAVE I DONE can't eat anything I LIKE ANYMORE. WHAT IF I DON'T LOSE WEIGHT. but today i weighed my self I am down 10 pounds which I am sure is Water but it looks good to me. I feel much better today. It is very hard being on the Clear Liquids but I am doing well not cheating at all.. How is your recovery going?
NukeChik 1 Posted May 9, 2008 slim, Don't get discouraged! You might not be able to eat "anything you like" right now, but that will change. This is an important time for you to stick to your doctors orders, let everything heal up. I know its hard right now, but it won't last long. Don't be discouraged if you put some weight back on when you start mushies (some do, some don't). Try not to look at your weight loss as "I only lost a pound this week", try and look at your average! jaylow 1 Posted May 9, 2008 I was banded May 6th. My doctor told me to drink three Protein Shakes a day as long as they are mixed with Water and not milk. Believe me they really fill you up. I think you may need some more Protein than you are getting. You may want to call your doctor.
boredryu 0 Posted May 9, 2008 do you guys sip the Protein Drinks or drink them regularly (2-5 days post op?)
angelface 1 Posted May 9, 2008 bordryu. I had my surgery on 4/28 and since about day 3, I could drink just like before the surgery. Is that normal?
boredryu 0 Posted May 9, 2008 I dunno, because of all the gas pains I don't know if taking bigger drinks is a problem or not. On my discharge notes it says to sip day 1 but doesn't give much instructions 2-5. So I'm a little lost.
