Pizza, Steak, and Ground Beef

Recommended Posts

How many bandsters here can manage to eat these foods? I know several people who have had the band. Some of them are able to eat a couple of bites of a slice of pizza, and some are able to eat some steak. Most can have ground beef.

I am optimistic that I will be able to eat steak. Even one bite! Pizza...I'm not so sure. I will be sad if I can't have one little bite of my favorite pizza when I visit my hometown!!!!!

If you are able to eat these...how do you prepare them?

So far I have not had any problems with any food. I choose for the most part not to eat pizza or bread because to me it isn't worth all that chewing and once it has been in my mouth for a long time it is just nasty.

I eat ground beef and steak all kinds of ways and haven't had any problems. I just chew and chew. If it doesn't turn into mush then I don't swallow it and I just throw it away.

I had some pizza just before my first fill and I was able to eat one slice. It had super thin crust and I had to chew it to oblivion. I have not tried it since my fills, but it has been awhile so I was thinking about having some. I like pizza, and it has never been a trigger food for me so I'm not too worried.

Steak I never really even ate much before banding and tried one bite of super soft and juice filet before my fill also. Tiny bite and didn't feel good going down so I didn't try it again. I probably never will again, which I can live without, no biggie.

I can eat ground beef no problems. I usually eat ground turkey instead when I cook at home, but for hamburgers its the beef. I have to remove the bun though because breads I have a hard time with.

I have had 2 fills and can eat all of the above, very carefully. I only eat the topping of a pizza and then a couple bites of the crust, but at least I am eating pizza. Steak, I am very careful. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. I love steak and I really miss having that big juice ribeye. If only I could take a big bite. But really, I don't miss it. I have made this change and have accepted it. Hamburger is much easier but still must chew carefully.

I am able to eat all of those items... however, I have only tried very thin crust pizza, tenderloin steak and I'm not much of a hamburger fan ( I actually prefer ground turkey). pizza was by far my very FAVORITE food pre op. We were talking about pizza hut pizza the other day.. OMG yum! hahah All that greasy crust... ughhh bad bad bad. I have had steak a couple times. I try to buy the tenderloin, so it doesn't happen often due to the cost.

The ONLY food that has given me trouble going down is deli turkey. Weird huh? Every time I eat it I get a golf ball feeling in my chest. It usually passes in a minute or so, except for one time. My one and only PB. NOT a fun experience! Now I have NO interest in deli meat anymore.

The only things I have had trouble with is soft breads(small, small bites) and rice, oh my rice =s made me feel like i was having contractions again.. eekkkk.. other than that I have been good to go. My friend tried ground beef and hurt her last time but this time it did better. so things can change with the band. I suggest trying small bites to see how they do. Best wishes

Ann

I have only had one fill, and I am not at my "sweet spot" yet, but all of these foods work so far for me. I guess I will have to wait until my next fill and see what that does for me. Good luck

I have had 2 fills and am definitely at my sweet spot. I cannot eat steak at all, after 3 bites, I am done. I can get through about 1/3 to 1/2 of a hamburger. With pizza, I can usually eat about 1/2 to 3/4 of a slice of thin crust pizza.

I don't really miss any of it though. I feel full at every meal and don't have alot of cravings except around my TOM.

pizza - hmmm, I dont really like it. I can eat the topping and a bit of the base, but I dont usually bother.

Steak, actually I havent ever tried it since I've been banded, its just not something I eat. I dont really like it and with 3 kids to eat, a meal of steak is not very economical. I can eat roast lamb or roast beef though and I can eat lamb loin chops and cutlets so I imagine I can eat steak.

Ground beef I eat plenty of, with no problems.

I haven't tried pizza simply because I'm afraid of that extremely full feeling. It's miserable and I just don't even want to go there. I haven't tried steak yet, but I can eat hamburger all day long as long as it's juicy.

The only things I've found that I absolutely can't eat are chicken and french fries, but tator tots go down just fine...go figure! I've just gotten my second fill so things may be different now. Since I haven't had much restriction I have been able to eat even bread. I ate a hot dog with bun the other day. No probs.

I tried a Lean Cuisine pizza last night - that was a BIG NO GO!! It was way to much bread and after 3 bites I was in agony.

I can eat ground beef much easier than chicken right now (breaks my heart, I like chicken so much better).

Steak is ok too - very small bites.

I am going to be seeing Dr. Marsden now! My friend was banded by him and he is nice enough to take me on a patient. I go to my appointment on the 12th.

I can eat bread just fine since I haven't had a fill. I am eating oat bread, but I am trying to stay away from it. If I want a sandwich I will eat turkey on a wheat wrap. I was able to eat some thin crust pizza, but not the top of the pizza. I tried to eat some fajita meat...no no no. It was bad. I shall NOT do that again!

I can slowly eat the Lean Cuisine and South Beach and a small piece of other frozen pizzas but not the fresh made one's like pizza Hut or Papa John's. Have not tried the thinner crust restaurant ones. Have been avoiding that for both fear that will not work (and got to make a mad dash for bathroom to PB) and fear that will stay down & I will unleash the demon.I eat ground beef with no problem. Usually try to get the lean type. I can eat breads as long as hard or toasted. So no regular sliced bread, hamburger or hot dog Buns for me. Have not ordered steak in a restaurant since being banded but I can eat that which I or my mom cook. Just has to be a good cut. There is actually not alot that I definitely can't eat as long as I go slow. I just try and make a choice not to eat it because of carbs or higher calories. My biggest problem is with trying to eat reheated leftovers. Definitely not easy.

I make meatloaf a lot and do better when I use ground turkey instead of ground beef. With a regular hamburger patty I can eat about 1/2. I do not eat bread with the exception of an occassional (very rare) slice of well toasted thin rye or wheat bread. A whole slice is unusual.

I don't try for pizza crust, but have eaten the topping off.

Steak, porkchops, etc. Those have been fine. However, VERY small bites and lots of chewing are essential.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
