Fenton 3 Posted May 8, 2008 Congrats on getting the nod from those tight-fisted insurance bastids! (No offense to any insurance types out here, but, you know what I mean!) The best advice is to try a bunch of them and see what you like; keep a close eye on Protein, calorie and fat content. For the liquid diet, at my place they recommended 6 cans day of the low carb SlimFast Optima. It was manageable, but for the liquids post-op, I used a vanilla SFO, added a banana, Protein powder and some Peanut Butter and blended - v. delicious! That was originally recommended to me as a chocolate-based shake, but I don't like the SFO chocolate flavours...

I am now scheduled for the same day, 5/19. Best of luck to us both!! I am currently using the Medifast Protein Drinks pre-op and ordered some of the IDS New-Whey Liquid Protein fruit Punch to drink after the surgery. These are the 3.5 oz "bullets". I like them because I can get enough Protein for the day drinking 2 of them without all of the liquid. The rest of the liquids I will prpbably get from making my own lemonade using spring Water, lemon juice and stevia. Many people recommend the Ispoure ready to drink bottles, but I can't stand the after taste. I am a big fan of their powder protein, but the surgeon says they aren't really considered clear. Hope this helps. Again, good luck with the upcoming surgery.
mediummike 0 Posted May 9, 2008 My nutritionist introduced me to Samrtforme products (Smartforme.com). I think they are pretty good, especially the "juice drinks" and their liquid diet shakes were pretty good too, as well as very high in Protein. They cater to bariatric surgery patients..
