Seminar down-1st consult 06/03/08

Recommended Posts

Hello every one! I've been a lurker for like a year now, trying to get up the guts to actualy go through with the Lap Band Surgy. Well I'm finely going to start the process. I went to the seminar last night and the doctors office just call me to set up the 1st consult. I didn't expect them to call me so soon, but I am very excited!

I am going to be self pay so I was wanting to know if there is any thing I should be aware of? :confused2: I Think they told me when I first called them a month ago that it would be 14,000. But I would like to know that for sure cause Im pulling out a personal loan for it and need to know if I should get it for more than 14,000 and how much more?

Hi,

I would ask the surgeon exactly how much money he charges for the procedure. You may be able to save a few thousand dollars by calling other hospitals, it's just a thought, trying to save you some cash.

I did my seminar and had my first consult also so we're both just starting out.

Kat

Thanks for the info. What do they go over when you go in for your consult? And did they say what the time frame is from consult to surgery?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
