I'm looking into lap band surgery but I only have a BMI of 38. Insurance will only cover if I have BMI of 40, hence a difference of 10 pounds. I'm on my 6 month insurance recommended diet. My Dr says I'm crazy to gain weight just for the surgery.... but I really want it.

What do you all think?

My BMI was 36 when my insurance approved it...I have United Health Care...they required a 40 BMI with no questions asked....Between 35-39 BMI you had to have co-morbidity factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. If you have any of these sometimes the insurance companies will lower your BMI requirement for surgery. Check if you already havent

I was in exactly the same boat...I confess...I gained the 10 lbs...

But, my Dr. weighed me fully clothed...so I wore jeans, sweatshirt and my heaviest shoes..so my body actually gained 5 and my clothes added 5 lbs....so my BMI was exactly 40 w/my clothes...and I got approved!!!!

yep, a lot of people will wear weights around their ankles too. most of the doctors know they are too... i would go that route instead of gaining more.

I bought ankle weights and took out the lead weights that are inside the wrap thingy then stuffed all the lead in my bra. It was hillarious. I looked like Pamela Anderson
