Thanks

Advice ?? Here is what I did and it has worked for me...

Eat healthy (low fat sugar free for the most part) 98% of the time - allow for treats 2% of the time and budget them in daily calorie budget 900-1200 a day (vary it) Excercise - slowly and increase speed & intensity 4 - 5 times a week and include some weigh work once you have been cleared by doc.

Keep a food diary/log/journel - weigh and measure your food until you know what 4 oz looks like - eat from small plates, bowls & childrens utensiles - drink your Water - get your 60 grms Protein

If you slip up - don't give up - just say that your very next food choice is going to be better.

If you think your are hungry - really think about it - usually it's just head hunger - find something to distract you - I usually get on the computer LBT has become my transfer addiction

Good Luck...

How wonderful !! I'm so happy for you and proud of you. We all know how touch weight loss is and you are to be commended.

I've seen you active on this website. I am still fairly new (2/27/08) and making progress, but slowly (25 pounds). Can you please share your habits, methods, particularly around the eating part. For instance, are you following a specific eating plan or calorie plan? How often to you eat, what, how do you gauge your satiety etc. How much do you exercise. Thank you so much. I would like to be as successful as you, if possible.

Thanks... 25 /2 is 12.50 loss per month that's good. Give yourself credit...

I eat 3 meals - plus 1 or 2 Snacks - I eat about a cup per meal (minimum sometime 1.5 ) I eat healthy 98% of the time and 2% I leave for treats - I eat lowfat - sugar free and some starches) I limit myself to 900 - 1200 calroires a day - and if I have a treat it's within my budget calories not in addition to - I follow a Weight Watcher type eating plan as I feel it's the most healthiest/well balanced plan out there.

Typical Menu

BF - oatmeal or yogurt & 1/4 garnola - lunch - one pot wonder (meat, zuchinee, onion bell pepper Tomato sauce jalapeno cooked in one pot) on a turkey sandwich on lite bread - dinner 4 oz fish 1/2 c rice 1/2 cup veggies - 100 calorie snack pack popcorn & either yogurt pudding or fudgecicle (all sf)

Exercise

In March I got a trainer - but prior to that I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill - 4 or 5 days a week - slowly at first and built myself up to 3 miles in 50 minutes on speeds varing from 3.0 to 4.0 incline from 0 to 7 - Now I work with trainer 2 days a week with weights and then go 2 days for cardio.

Satiety- Well this still takes work - I will be phyically full - but still mentally hungry - I get full on my meals - tummy full just like prior to banding - but my head still says I am hungry but the band will not let you continue to eat - I eat until i feel old fashion fullness. But I am lucky I am at my sweet spot - prior to hitting it - if I was still hungry after dinner we will say I would just eat extra veggies (this goes to my weight watcher eating where veggies were almost free foods)

I gotta cut this short - (at work and just got a call) so hope this helps...

Thanks again for the props :smile2:

Thanks IndigoGirl55,

I am doing a lot of those things but not everything. I'm thinking of starting a WW type of program just to make sure I'm staying in a good calorie range. I think I'm on the right track !!! thanks so much

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
