I went for pre op yesterday and everything went fine or so I thought. There was student doing my EKG alone but I didn't think to much of it. Now I have never had a EKG done but the placement of the leads seemed to be a little off but like I said I had never had one done. She placed a lead on each leg, 2 under each boob and one set on my chest, does that sound right? Anyways the hosp. called today and said that the EKG didn't come back good and I need to have another one done tomm. Can someone tell me if those are the places the leads go and should I worry about this? I don't have any health problems other then my weight. I am a little worried something could really be wrong and I won't be able to have the surgery on monday. If there is something wrong then I am glad to be finding out now but I just wonder if the student did something wrong. Any help would great if it is just to put my mind at ease.

Machines may be different as far as placement (I thought it was all the same but you never know...) Here is a link to a website that had a picture of placement ( I googled it)

CompuMed, Inc.

I just had my EKG done on Monday, the woman was experienced because it was the fastest placement that I've ever had. I remember one right above each of my sneakers, one under each boob, two on my chest and I believe that I had placements on my arms also, there were ALOT of them, the student may not have had them hooked up correctly, in the right places or all of them on you, she could have been nervous and forgot so I would not worry, usually when an x-ray is taken, they make you wait to see if the x-ray came out okay before you left, same for another type of bloodwork that I had, I had to wait for clearance to leave.

Don't worry, just have the test re-taken, maybe some of the nurses in the forum can explain it better than I did.

Good luck!!!

Well, here's hoping your EKG tomorrow comes out right. If the same student comes in to do it, can you ask him/her if a nurse or doctor can come in and observe, to put your mind at ease?

I've done plenty of EKG's. 1 lead on each leg (or hip) and shoulder. Then, 1 lead on each side of your sternum. then, the "stickies" should have made a kind of semi-circle going down and under your boob, following the ribcage. There should have been around 10 "stickies" on your body for a good diagnostic EKG. If the tech only used like 3, then she did another kind of EKG......but that kind only shows 1 "view" of the heart. That may be why they want you to come back. *note - I just checked the link that Iowamom posted and that is the correct placement.

Thank you so much for posting. I looked at the link and the placement is a little off from what she did. I go back today and I will not let a student do it this time. I will let you know how it turns out!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
