Just had a fill...help PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

I was just filled yesterday and could NOT get liquids down after I got home. I couldn't even keep my saliva in, I kept sliming and throwing up. The band was obviously too tight. My doctor met me at midnight at the office to unfill me. I felt MUCH better.

However today I still feel kinda nauseated, is this normal after a fill? I've been able to sip one slim fast and a few ounces of Water which has taken me all day. I also got down 1/2 of a pudding.< /p>

No problem with my saliva today. I've just been feeling kinda yucky all day, maybe from the stress on my esaphagus from throwing up so much yesterday??

I've never been good about just liquids then mushies for a few days after a fill. I couldn't "cheat" right now if I wanted to. Is this how I should feel for a few days?

Can you PLEASE tell me what you go through, what you are able to eat and amounts for the first 2-4 days after a fill????

If this is normal, I don't want to go get unfilled for nothing. I am determined to help the band work so it can help make me thin...

Help please!!!:confused2:

Thank you,

Kellie from sunny AZ

Hi Kellie, sorry you had such a rough time with the fill! I would say that since you are able to get some nutrition in, with the Slim Fast----give it a day or so. Try to drink them, maybe some Ensure or nutrtitional drinks like that....and let your stomach and esophagus relax, and unswell. I would not under any circumstances, even if you feel better, try to eat food for a couple of days. Your body has been through a real shock!

If after tomorrow evening it does not seem to be improving at all, then I would call your Dr. again, and if you have to be further unfilled, go for it, it is better than causing damage, by remaining too tight.

You might also try different temperature liquids. Hot tea, with some sugar or honey will give you some energy, and sometimes soothes the irritation. On the other hand sometimes ice cold works for other people. Icee's that kind of thing----real slow. Personally the hot works for me.

I have only had 2 fills and never been over filled, but I did get sick and vomit, and end up with resulting swelling. I sipped hot tea for a couple of days, and slowly eased back to my diet.....it was scary!!!! I can imagine how you felt!

Relax.....stress will cause you to tighten too. Sip and give yourself some time. If you do not feel a lot better in 24 hours, I would think you need to see your Dr. again.

Hope you feel much better soon!!

Kat

I think after a fill, your stomach can swell. If you could not get any saliva down, then I think it is a good thing you got an unfill. I had that happen to me and I ended up in the hospital because I vomited blood. After the unfil I did feel yucky for a while. I was on liquids for a week and am now great. I am going to wait a few months before getting another fill because it was so scary. Hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
