I'm 3 weeks post-op... and I have a burning sensation that comes and goes over the port site, and surrounding area... Its an uncomfortable feeling. I told the Dr. about it, and he tells me it's part of the healing processes, that the muscles are healing??? Any one experience these feelings??

Hi JerseyGirl,

I was banded on the 30th and I also have that burning feeling over my port. I really feel it when I bend over and when I try to get up out of bed. I always worry about if I am doing something wrong. I don't see my doctor for another 5 weeks so hopefully I haven't done damage.

I too get that burning feeling. I was going to post something on here asking about it too. I am really nervous about doing something wrong and causing problems so I hope it's just part of the healing process!!

Hey Jerseygirl,

I'm 16 days post-op now and my port site is still sore and swallen and feels hard at times. I know that they cut the muscles there ad it takes longer to heal, not sure if I would call it a burning feeling but I don't like it. Any how your not alone.

P.S. The heating pad helped alot along with the gas-ex.

Keep in touch. What part of Jersey are you from. I'll be there for a few weeks the end of June into July.

I am 8 days post op and I have the burning around my port too. Actually that is the only thing bothering me. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I to had burning not so much over my port site. But the opposite side. The deepest incision she told me. It is the muscles that burn as the try to repair themselves. I am not sure if the reason why I never noticed my port hurting was the other side hurt so much and gave me so many troubles. This lasted over 3 weeks.

I was justed banded on may 5th and my dr. said where the port is it takes longer to heal and for the port to meld with the muscle, approx. 4 to 6 weeks, thats why they don't want us to lift anything more than 10lbs. for six weeks. I just thought this might be the reason for the burning.

i was baned on 5/6/08 at Weill Cornell NYC. I too have a burning where the port site is especially when I get out of bed. So let me ask you a question...is any new bandies thinking they did the wrong thing. I am not sure if it is the pain maedication or what but I am having drastic 2nd thoughts. Obvious 2nd thoughts that are to late! Let me know anyones thoughts.

I first want to thank everyone that has responded to my post!! Now I know I'm not alone w/ this feeling!!! I wish you all best of luck!!

As for Julsco I don't regret it one BIT!!! I had 2nd thoughts before the band and maybe a little right after. I guess I thought I could never eat any of my favorite foods again... and that is not the case!!!!!!! I"m on mushies.. .and what ever I cook for dinner for the family, I eat! (Of coarse in MODERATION!!) I put it in a blender and eat 3-4 oz of it! I can care less what it looks like... Meatballs!!! chicken Cutlets!!! Pasta!!! Split Pea Soup w/ ham!! You name it, you can eat it. The key to success is quantity! You need to control the amount you put in your mouth... and you alson need to train yourself, when to back off the table. Make wise choices!!! Stay away from sweets, fast foods things you know are un-healthy! Lots of luck, if you ever have any questions.. hit me up. best wishes!!!!

I have to say, I had a 2nd thought for about 1 seconds right after my surgery, of course I really didn't know where I was,23_33_7.gif but by the time I got to my room they were long gone.

This Monday I will be 3 weeks post-op, my port site is still a little tender, but other than that I feel great and wouldn't change a thing. I get to start regular food this week and can't wait. Small portions, small bite and eat slow. The slow part is the hardest next to not drinking with my meals.

36_1_34.gifThis is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Julsco, i was banded 5/5 luckly not much pain. but to be honest i haven't had any second thoughts as of yet. I figure anything i'm feeling is all due to the surgery and healing. Once I'm past the healing process and on regular food i'll see if i have second thoughts, but i'm not inticipating any. i hope your second thoughts go away soon so you can just enjoy all the benefits that will come your way from being banded.

Does this pain truly ever go away, I had my surgery on 8/18 and for the last couple of days i'm hurting it is unbearable, I had my post op check up 3 days ago and they said everything looked ok but at that time I didn't feel this pain, can I have done something this early to cause damaged to my port, I thought I was being real cautious.

Does it really go away, I am not dealing with this ok, I feel like I can't do anything without getting that twingy burning feeling, I am also second guessing if I did the right thing, I was banded on 8/18 and I know that I am not completely healed but this is unbearable, I put a call into the docto's office just waiting on a call back. I figured you probably could give me better advice and maybe a few suggestions since you have gone through this, any ideas how to minimize the pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
