Okay, fellas, this is probably gonna sound like a dumb thread, but here goes anyway. Now that a lot of us guys have lost some weight, are any of the rest of you getting looks your way that you didn't when you weighed more, or getting comments to you about looking nice after losing weight? I'm married, and there's only one woman for me of course, but it's kind of nice.

Oh yeah. People seem to make it a point to compliment. It is certainly flattering.

Hey Jack....I'm scheduled for consultation on May 20....I'm having a real hard time trying to decide which surgery to do...the Gastric or the Lap Band...One of the only reasons I didn't want to do Lap Band is because I don't know anyone that has had it personally, and I wanted to hear from someone that had it done for a while.....and what a blessing....your "old timer" thing made me write you. Any regrets, problems? How have you done, what made you go Lap Band and not Gastric? I know you won't have all the answers for me, but i need your wisdom on this "old timer"

Dflippo, I'm a gal in Upstate NY and had my lapband 3 months ago and have no regrets. The surgery was easy and recovered in 10 days, back to living my life, just a new way of eating. I still eat, a matter of fact, I eat more then my support group pal Tom who had bypass the same day as my banding. He's lost slightly more weight then I have, but I like that I can still eat, enjoy myself and lose weight. I love my band! You will too! Keep us posted on things and good luck! -Dineen

My daughter had gastric RNy November 2007 and as of May 2008 has lost 90 pounds. she weighed 270 pds. She can never eat anything with high fructose corn Syrup in it ever!! I had the lapband march 2008 and have lost 28 pounds. I can eat the high fructose items without "dumping" Everything is like before my surgery but I cannot eat large quantities. You still get hungry, I am in my "fill" stage so food can still be eaten, so you have to use a lot of control. Protein, and more Protein. If you eat protein, you do not get as hungry. This is the only difference as far as food goes, medically speaking lapband is easier surgically My daughter stayed in the hospital 2 days , I came home the same day.

Just checking to see if anyone has had their band taken out? I am thinking about it. I have had my band for 6 years and it seems to always be sore around the port. I was diagnosed with nutcracker syndrome and it maybe due to the pressure from the lap band. Is there a support group in Portland? I am head down to Dr Ortiz soon.

Marbobz - sorry to hear you're having problems. What the heck is "nutcracker syndrome"? It doesn't sound good. I think there are better forums to post in about this, though - this is the Men's Room, but the traffic is a lot higher in the areas where both male and female bandsters participate, since far more chicks than dudes have bands. AND, I think, far more banded chicks than banded dudes are likely to talk freely about their experiences. There is a forum just for complications of bands somewhere around here...

Good luck with the issue, either way.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
