I had that operation in Mexico in July of 05 and have only lost a few pounds. Now I choke on everything and throw up once or twice a day.

This is my first post. Just beginning looking into lap-band surgery. I'm from IN, too, but will most likely use Cincinnati facility for surgery. How long has it been since you began insurance approval? What company?

Thanks,

Hi, Global

I am five days out now and feeling great. Not one bit hungry! I am drinking about 4 oz. at a time; tea, skim milk, juice, Soup, and even made chili for my family last night. I took a scoop of it and put in through a strainer to have a few spoons of the chili sauce. It was good and I was full at about 10 spoon fulls. I can sleep on my side now, so that is a plus and I truly just feel good. Norton's Hospital was real good to me and everyone I came in contact with was great. I was sleepy for the first three days and then it was all good from there. I know you must be getting really excited. Well, have a great weekend and I will talk to later this week.

WOW sounds like you're doing great Banded Girl! I was wondering about sleeping on my side, which is my favorite! Bet you can almost feel the pounds sliding off!

Lele I'm getting mine done at Clark Memorial. My liquid diet starts the 20th. We did go to Golden Corral today. Wanted some of those yummy yeast rolls before they are a no no! But the funny thing is as addicted to Diet pop as I was, they don't even taste good anymore. I've been off them since middle of Jan, and when I try a taste of my hubby's, it just tastes yuck. Which is a good thing!

Take care, and have a great weekend!

Hi, Everyone

Today is a starting out to be a great day. I was able to drink 5 oz of my Choc. Protein Shake this morning and I slept wonderfully. I am only taking one pain pill a day now and that is an hour before bedtime. I am going to go out for a few hours today and shop and have some Soup at Panera bread Co. for lunch. They have a great Onion soup, just have to tell them to hold the bread and cheese. I still have not had any nausea or pain and don't feel hungry yet, so I hope that hold on till at least the two week mark. I'll keep you posted.

Have a super day everyone...

Hi, Holliday

Hope you are doing better with the diet. I am using Unjury brand protien and I love them. I had Tomato Soup with sour cream today for lunch and it went down great. I also tried Ramon chicken Soup without the noodles and it enjoyed it. I am 8 days out and holding 10 oz at a time. So far no nausea, I am thankful for that, I hate to be sick. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.

 holliday, you had me rollin with the smilly's. Yea, I just got done drinking an 6oz cup of skim milk/hot choc mix with no problem. It took me about 20mins to drink it and I am way full. I had about 10 oz. of Tomato Soup for dinner last nigt, took me about 30 mins to drink it all. I am probably taking in an average of 30 to 40 oz of liguid a day. That is three meals and Water or juice in between. I have not weighed yet, won't know till I go in on the 22nd of May. I know I have lost because of my shirts getting loose, but no real info on the numbers lost. I am just happy to feel good and satisfied. Have a great day! I can't believe I am not hungry yet?! It has to be that my prayer power is working? I prayed for God to help me with the mind hunger, because I knew that would be the hardest part. The mind is a powerful beast.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
