Today is my 9th day and all is well. I am still not hungry, all the ports are healing great and I am able to handle all the liquids I have tried thus far. Good luck to all the May folks that have band dates coming up. My next check up in on the 22nd and I will know then what I have lost so far. Keep up the good work all you Indiana banders.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've not be on this week. Really busy, and my sweet mom got married. So precious, she's 66,and I'm so pleased she has a wonderful man in her life now.

Glad to hear you're doing so well Banded. I go tomorrow morning for my Upper GI, then Tuesday for my Pre OP testing, and final bariatric appointment. That's when I start my pre-op lovely liquid diet. So our fridge is filled with lots of cottage cheese, broth, V8, and popsicles!

:biggrin2: Hello, Everyone

I called and got my before weight and weighed at my Mom's yesterday, I am down 16 pounds already!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew that I had lost some, but wasn't expecting that high of a number. I am feeling great, still no hunger or feeling of being deprived. I am suprised that I have as much energy as I do, but I truly am doing well. I start on "Mushies" on Monday, so I am looking forward to that.

Good luck on the Upper GI tomorrow, Global and be prepared for about two hours when you go in for you Pre-Op appointment.

Holliday, my doc didn't have me on a pre-surgery diet either. I just decided to go on all liquid the day before just so I wouln't have a bunch of stuff in my system.

Welcome Lele... and everyone else.

Have a great weekend everyone!

i found a Protein drink thats ohhh sooo goood. its called nectur. i found it at a store called the Vitamin store. they have fruity powders that u add to Water and its not chalky or milky. i got fuzzy naval to me it tastes like oj with a little Water in it but that could be that i didnt put enought powder. ill try again today and see what happends. then there was one called Isopure which was cool also. u can get samlples of that at GNC but they are a little pricy. i paid $5 just for a 20 oz drink. im happy now that i found something i like.

i cant wait till i can eat mushies!! i have been dieing to eat some tuna(canned cant do the fresh!! lol) and chicken. i need some flavor in my life!! i going to the store today to get the sourcream and try that in the Tomato Soup like u suggested. well im off to have me some Breakfast. talk to u ladys lata.

Hi All, woke up about 6, and took my little doggies for our mile walk.

Did the Upper GI. Got really ticked how they make you "rollover" twice to get the barrium to coat your stomach. Felt like I was in obedience school! The Dr said everything looked good.

The barium made me feel queasy afterward, so I'm pouring down the liquids.

Gorgeous here today. We're going for a picnic this afternoon.

 Way to go Holliday!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad that you were able to find something that you like to drink. It isn't cheap to be thin and healthy that is for sure. $5 is just plum rediculous for one 20oz drink. I been hangin in there with Welches grape juice, V8, Sweet tea, lemonaide and my Protein drinks. Hope you like the tom Soup with sour cream, it was a nice switch up in the taste department for me. I have also tried the bean and bacon, just strained it and I thought the broth was pretty good. Anyway, good luck the rest of the week and I keep you posted after I go to the doc on Thursday.

Hey there Global, happy to hear you survived the Uper GI deal, I am glad that I didn't have to go through that. I did when I had my Gall-bladder surgery and hated it just as much as you did. Hopefully the beautiful day lifted you spirts this afternoon.

Well, I am over and out for now, be blessed and be good to yourselves.

:tt2: way to go Holliday,

Like the new outfit. HOW in the heck do you plan on walking in those heels?????????????????????????? :tt1: Makes me cry just thinking about it. Those look like what 'Oprah" calls "Sittin Shoes".

Way to go on 17 down. Hope you are still doing good with the liquids . I can say that I am still not hungry. I am so thankful and feeling great. People have already started to say things like " you look different? you dieting or something" or you look real nice in that new shirt.

Makes me feel good.:biggrin2:

Global you are coming up next, :) I am praying for your surgery to go well and I just know you will be blessed from the minute you go in and come out a new you.

Well, have a great week everyone and drop a line when you have time.

Hi everyone

Everything went very smoothly for me. I was up walking around within a couple of hours, and would rest, then walk, rest then walk.

I had a private room which was sooooooooo nice. My Dr was shocked how much I was walking.

The only bummer is I've caught my husband's cold, so am miserable with that as well. Still pretty sore.

Hey there Global

Glad the everything went well for you with the surgery. Hope you shake that cold quick, I am sure that it is not what you need right now. I will send some positive energy your way. I am doing fine, eating mushies and feeling more that satisfied. The Doc said for me to look for a little weight increase in the next two weeks because of adding food back to the diet. I checked yesterday and I am still holding at my 16 lost, so I was happy to see that!

Looking forward to next Monday, I go on regular foods then and I am wanting a salad. I hope that it goes down good. That is one food item I have missed. Well, have a super weekend and I'll talk to you next time.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
