48 hrs post op gas and pain

Recommended Posts

yeah.. tell me too. i just called my doc and they said that if it feels like 'chest pain' to go to ER. if it feels like 'gas pains', then that's normal.

how am i supposed to differentiate between the two?

i also just started eating some Jello. and with a bite the sized of 1/2 table spoon, when the Jello goes down and get to the approx location of the band, it is a little uncomfortable.

are all of these symptoms natural?

I had my band placed last Monday. I cut the intestinal gas by using gas-x strips and a heating pad. But the best thing I did was cut dairy. Apparently I don't do well with lactose. I cut it a couple days ago and I haven't felt better. See if that helps.

The gas from the procedure just needs time to come out. There really isn't anything that can be done about that. Just like everyone says. Walk it off.

i also got banded on the 28th of April. I think the worse part of the healing process is the gas and the indigestion in your chest area.. Maalox has helped and my doctor placed me onAciphex for reflux. Walking and Water. it seems to be the key. I think the Protein Shakes with any form of milk makes it worse. now i have already graduated to some soft foods and this is a big help.. all liquids kept me gassy and weak. Good luck all!

hate to tell you but i'm 18 days post op and i still have gas pain in my left shoulder - but it has gotten much better and will for you. i totally understand how you are feeling - i felt like i was boderline suicidal (well not really) but the gas brought me to tears on more than one occasion. for me - nothing worked (not walking, Water, gas-x - NOTHING) so hopefully some of the suggestions will work for you. as bad as it is, once it goes, it's a distant memory and you'll be happy you opted for the surgery.

good luck!!!

yes, all your symptoms are natural - i remember eating jello also a day or so after the surgery and it felt like it just sat there in between my boobs and hurt - this too will go away and ease with each passing day but don't expect to feel some relief for close to a week plus.

not trying to be negative - just realistic. hang in there - 18 days post and i'm feeling like my old self only 18 lbs lighter :frown:

I was banded on 4-23-08. I wake up feeling awesome but usually around noon I get the shoulder pain. It has gotten so much better...but still aggravating. I'm down 21 lbs so far...which makes the gas seem like not such a big deal! I am starting to feel hungry and am looking forward to my first fill. Anyone had their fill yet that can tell me the difference between how hungry I am now to how I'll feel after the fill?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
