It depends on who your doctor is. Each baratric group has their own guidelines. Mine was done in Missouri and the baratric group at the hospital I used had a rule (guideline) that you had to be under 60 with a BMI of less than 50. However, my BMI was over 50 and it was no big deal to them. There will be someone at the seminar who can help you -- just ask a lot of questions. Good Luck!

i live in new york and 61 is not too old here. just call and ask at the hospital you are choosing to be banded at. if you haven't chosen one yet call a hospital in your area that does bariatric surgery and ask. i think it would be more of an issue getting medical clearance from your primary care doc, since you have a lot of medical problems.

Hi, I just had my banding done on April 28th. I am 66 years old. I really haven't had any problems except for the gas. I hate that. Some doctors I called would not do the surgery if your were over 65 but was lucky and found one that said he had done this on some in thier 70's. Good Luck

Hi everyone

For any older people needing lapband.

Go to Beliteweight.com

.If you are on social security..medicare

they will get you approved and do all the work for you.

the only requirement is you have to go to a Center of Excellence

they will set you up to go University of Michigan.

I had mine done last week. I am 69 years old..

Medicare will pay up to the time you are 70 years old.

But all you have to do is go..they will handle every thing for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
