January 9, 2008 - The new start

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow (sister) lapbanders. My name is Tami, I am 44 and a mother of 5 plus 2 sons-in-law. In January, the ninth to be precise, I had the lapband put in - on? Since July of 07 I have lost about 54 lbs. I am happy about this, however for about the last month or so, I have been hovering at the same weight or at least within the same 5 to 7 lbs. I am irritated with myself. I have had 3 fills, my doc believes in moving slowly there. I have about 4 mls. in my band, and at times I do feel restriction but other times, I don't.

In a way, I am afraid I have lost the initial momentum that I had. I have always had a hard time fitting exercise into my day and that is totally the issue now! I am paying for a gym membership that isn't being used.:cursing:

I have been able to stop using my c-pap machine, taken off of 3 medications and able to 1/2 my blood pressure medication! I can move faster with less pain than I have been able to in a long time. I have gone from a size 20 (or so...) to some 12's but mostly 14's. YAY ME!! ha ha.

I want to get my mojo back! help!!

Congrats on your great results!! That's awesome!!

Can I recommend The Beck Diet Solution as a great way to kickstart a new losing streak? It's really helped me (and still is). Not all is applicable to banding, but most of it is -- it's not a diet itself.

For me, I think the most beneficial behavior -- one in which I only very reluctantly agreed to do originally -- was documenting everything that goes into my mouth. I use TheDailyPlate.com, which I'll recommend. FitDay.com works too, but it was hard to find foods I regularly eat, and I ended up entering too much stuff manually.

With a 1000-1200 cals per day target, I've been doing really well lately.

First, congratulations! If you didn't lose one more pound, you've done your body a huge favor!

I'm totally with you on the plateau and loss of motivation. I'm calling it the "I've lost 50 lbs....I feel better....and I don't feel like working hard to get off the rest" syndrome. Do you have a local support group or an exercise buddy to hold you accountable? It's great that you found the forum - it can be very motivating to follow the progress of others who were banded around the same time.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
