I am 17 days post-op and have begun walking, but would actually like to start jogging/running again. Anybody out there jogging or running? And if so, how soon after did you start up?

Thanks

You should check out the Couch to 5k threads in the fitness threads :cursing: I am about to start on one of those as I would love to go back to jogging. I am 2 weeks post op and do a fast walk of 3 miles a few times a week.

I started walking 4ks daily a week after surgery. stiches poped so took a week off, and 11 post op weight train 2 times per week, and swim daily, and walk 4kms 3 times week. it really helps and now I am avoiding the scales as muscels weigh more than fat. good luck

Couch to 5K is a GREAT way to start if you've not run before. I planned on doing it, but I was lucky, I found that about eight weeks after surgery, I went out to try day 1 and I ran 3kms, so I had a pretty good base to start from.

My tips though, slow down and then slow down some more. I really believe the secret for learning to run is to half your pace. The pace that feels natural is usually way too fast for you to maintain, I could actually WALK faster than I was running. But I stuck at it, plodding along and now I can run at a respectable if not earth shattering speed.

I trained for longer and longer races, first a 4k, then a 5K, then a 10k, and now a half marathon. Not sure my back is going to let me do a half though, I think 10K is "my" distance. Having goals to force me to add the distance was the key for me.

Also, take break days, dont run too many days in a row and once you've built a base, vary your distance, I do one long run a week, two medium and a short (usually 14k, 8k, 8k, 6k)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
