One surgery down...One to go!!

Recommended Posts

I had my gall bladder removed on 4/28 and scheduled to be banded on 5/19. My surgeon wanted to wait 3 weeks between surgeries. Has anyone had to go through this scenario? I am wondering if you felt physically ready for the second surgery and how the levels of pain and discomfort compared to each other. I very much value the input and experiences from those on this site and always welcome any recommendations.

I also tried some of the Isopure flavors and each one had a very bad after taste. I am used to the powdered form which is much more palatable. I decided to order the New whey Liquid Protein which are the 3.5 ounce "bullets". They are much better tasting and it is easier to consume the necessary amount of Protein without all of the liquid volume. Just my thoughts. If anyone is interested, I am happy to provide the pricing and website information that I use.

I had my gall bladder removed and then had band surgery about a month later. I was totally ready. Of course, the gall bladder surgery was a piece of cake. I came home from the hospital and did three loads of laundry. The band surgery, however, was not as easy but it was still VERY tolerable. Day #3 band post-op was probably my worst day but I was determined to make myself get up and move around. Was feeling well enough to get out for a while on Day #5 (although I tired easily). In hindsight, the recovery was relatively quick and I was back to work the next week. Hope this helps!

This does help. Thanks. I find that i am tired after the gall bladder surgery, but pain level was relatively low. One of the surgeons in the practice told me that the recovery would be about the same for the lap band, but I tend to disagree. Time will tell.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
