Recommended Posts

so my symptoms are:

sore spot in the middle of my chest (mid sternum). my chest feels like i have bronchitis all the time. the pain meds (Hydrocodone APAP Solution) seems to take a bit of the edge off, but does not kill all them pain.

also is there anything else i can do to help the pain (besides walking). i walked the other day, and after 4 blocks felt pretty sihtty.

that is so weird to me, because before the opp i could do 45min on the treadmill at 3.8mph and 1.5% grade. now i'm winded and in pain the day after my banding - walking only 4 blocks or so.

Sounds like gas to me. Goodness, give yourself a break! You're just a couple days out of surgery. I walked just around my house for about 5 days after my surgery. I once went to the store, but it was painful! Walking is good, but don't try to push yourself so soon after surgery or it will take it longer to heal (the scars will pull). At least that's been the case for me.

call your Dr right now that could be gas but it could be something more serious considering the amount of exercise you did before. I don't mean to scare you but it could be a pulmonary emboli and that is very dangerous if not treated. Don't wait and insist you see him or go to your PCP right away.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
