I scheduled my surgery for May 22nd. Since I am self pay, the process has been pretty quick for me. I had my first appointment yesterday. I also start the 2 weeks of Optifast tomorrow.

I am starting to wonder if I am going the right thing. How am I going to get through the first 2 weeks of Optifast?

I started my two week liquid diet today. I am not on Optifast, but I am on Myoplex. The doctor said that was just as good. I guess if we really put our minds to it, we can do it. My girlfriend bought me a buttered roll this morning, and I said no, so that was a good sign, lol. I went back to my desk and drank my shake. Believe it or not, I am full so far. I am going to try to focus on other things and not food. I already told my kids that when I get home from work tonight we are going out. Good luck to you and just remember you are on the next leg of your journey to good health.

I'm in the same boat! I start my Optifast next Friday. I'm worried that I'm going to be such a bear, and/or that I'll be starving and cheat.

The one thing that keeps me going forward full-speed? Knowing that the Optifast diet will make me drop some weight, fast! Think of how good it's going to feel to lose several pounds in two weeks!!

Keep us posted on your optifast!

One shake at a time....

that is how to approach it.. do not think of it as 2 weeks...just one shake at a time....

Drink lots of Water or crystal light...Don't just get in the obligatory 64 ounces... WAY up your water intake..you will spend a good amount of time on the potty.. but your body will adjust by day 3....... Days 1-3 are the toughest and then it is fine.....you body will be on board to what you are doing from then on....

I did a 6 month program of optifast... towards the end... waiting on people to eat made me angry :)... I called them "eaters" LOL! I wanted everyone to be able to shake rattle and roll on with their day with me.....Eating was a waste of my time... I had things to do!!

So remember... ONE SHAKE AT A TIME.......and keep posting on here for support....

yes, 1 shake at a time... by day 3 your liver has used up the sugar it stores... then it calls out to your body and uses fat for energy... sugar is what is giving you hunger. after the 3rd day i was fine... just keep sugar out of the preop diet (the longer you stay off sugar the moe fat u'll burn) i am 1 week post op and have no cravings or hunger, i have the odd Optifast but as long as i am taking my Vitamins and stuff i want to keep this streak going... my only complaint was the gas post op... but soon after you start farting it goes away... keep up with the liquid and like hulk hogan used to say take your vitamins and supplements! im down 27 pounds in 3 weeks.

Hi,

This is my 7th day on Protein shakes Pre-Op diet.

The first two days are the hardest. My stomach complained so loud. But now things are quiet again. I got enough Protein in per day that I'm not hungry at all.

Can you have anything else in addition to opti-fast? My doctor just told me to get 60+g or protein, 20 or les of Fat, and 10 g or less of Sugar per day. After 2 days of EAS Protein Shakes, I got so sick of sweet shakes, so I called up my doctor and asked if I can eat clear broth. The nurse said yes. So I got some chicken broth, add Protein powder (while it still cool). heat it up, a dash of salt and pepper. And It was yummy!

My nurse also lets me have Jello (Fat free sugar free kind). So I add Protein Powder to that and eat about a cup of Jello a day. 1 Cup of FF/SF jello came out to be 20 calories and 2g of protein. With Protein powder it's adding 55 calories, 1g Fat, 13g protein, 1g sugar.

Also, check out the Special K protein Water. Get the powder kind and add them to your Water. I take about 2 pack of those a day, 60 calories, total of 10g protein.

So far I lost 7 lbs. And my Blood sugar went from 167 to 104 this morning....

good luck to ya!!!

*I'm also self-pay. I'm getting banded next week~!! Woo hoo!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
