The doctor I work for wanted me to ask this question on here. Has anyone tried eating swedish fish??..u know the Gummy red fish candy. It is fat free and sometimes I get this craving for something sweet and I wanted one and she said I couldn't have one. Was wondering if anyone has tried one and if they think it would possibly get stuck and cause u to have to have a EGD done to remove it.... Input would be appreciated.

I don't know about Swedish Fish in particular, but several people in my Dr's LapBand support group said the other day that they can eat those Gummy fruit Snacks without any problem. I think they are softer than the fish though.

Seems to me, if you cut one fishy up into dime-size portions, you could easily chew, swallow, and not worry about them. Of course, eating a whole one is probably going to get stuck.

Sooo . . . Some people have got them stuck and some people haven't. All you have to do is ask yourself "Do I feel lucky today?"

Remember maybe some people who eat them may be without restriction, in which case they can eat just about anything.

It might be a good opportunity to find a more healthy substitute.:)

I do pretty good with eating the healthy food and staying away from the junk food. Just every once in while u get a craving for something sweet ( especially around that time of the month) and u just need that sweet little snack. I love swedish fish too but I am too afraid to try one for fear of getting it stuck. And I certainly don't want to have a tube shoved down my throat to retrieve it LOL.

I eat my kids' Gummy bear Vitamins sometimes with no problem. Don't know anything about whether Swedish Fish would go down or not though...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
