Bandmesoon 0 Posted April 12, 2005 I hope I am doing this right. I hope to be "banded" in June. I am so excited about my surgery. Can someone tell me about how much I should expect to lose? My sister had Gastric Bypass in November, and has already lost 75lbs. My current weight is 230 lbs.
hrv 0 Posted April 12, 2005 Don't count on loosing a ton of weight right off the bat. Some people do some don't and both are normal. But if you don't have your hopes up then whatever you lose at first will just be an added plus. Welcome and good luck:)
Alexandra 55 Posted April 12, 2005 Hi there, and welcome! We can't predict with any accuracy how much you can expect to lose, since that's completely within your power. I can tell you it will NOT compare in speed to your sister's weight loss, under any circumstance. Banding results in slower weight loss over time, though the amounts lost do compare favorably as you get 3 years out. How much do you want to lose? What's your BMI? Bandmesoon 0 Posted April 14, 2005 This is a great website! Everyone is very supportive and welcoming! I hope to read more about all of your experiences, and hope to share mine! I have gotten so much useful information form this site. I didn't realize how many people have actually had this surgery done, cheez I thought I was amongst the first. It's quite satisfying to read how successful you have been with this. I dream about my surgery every night, and I am finding it hard to concentrate on anything but "lapband". IM SO EXCITED I CANT WAIT!!
La_madam 20 Posted April 14, 2005 Hi & Welcome! Everybodys weght loss is different and at different paces. I had a BMI of 42 , 1 year ago on April 6th and weighed 265 and I have lost 86 lbs, my BMI is not 30.1 . Iam 5'5 It is best that I comapre myself to gastric bypass patients and their weght loss, they lose much faster then us bandsters but we have less complications & down time and less liquid phase, no malabsorption issues and no dumping syndrome and no re routing of our intestines, for me I will take the slower weight loss over all of that anyday! Just my opinion Good Luck to you, June will be here before you know it.
