Looking for Surgeon in New Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hello,

y name is carol. I am 56 and have been overweight all of my lfe. The "baby fay" never went away. Anyway, I'm tired of the roller coaster ride of diets that don't work.

I just started reseaching lab band weight loss. I have not been able to find a surgeon in NM. Do they exist?

JUST A SUGGESTION.. GO TO LAP BAND FORUM BY STATE AND SEE IF THERE IS ONE IN NM. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP YOU. AS FOR ME i'M HERE IN FLORIDA.

Don't know what part of NM you are in, but there are a couple of outstanding bariatric surgeons in Colorado if you are on that end of the state....you might go to the Colorado forum to check them out - one has been there a long time, the other is just moving there but is experienced.

If you are on the other side of the state, there is a surgeon in Amarillo.......he's in limbo right now, waiting to transfer from a group to his own practice but the office should be open soon.

And if you are going to be self-pay, you should certainly consider going to Mexico...lots of banded persons have had a positive experience with Mexico. Check out that forum......lots of good info. Main consideration is 'where do I get my fills afterward?' It's imperative that you have an aftercare/fill site nearby.

I dont think there are any lap band surgeons in New Mexico, but depending on where you are in NM, there is a wonderful surgeon in Southern Colorado (Pueblo), Dr. James Smith, 719-561-4300.

Nope, no surgeons in NM anymore. We do have a fill center in Albq. now though.

There are several in Colorado---Denver, Pueblo, Canon City, and one coming to Montrose soon.

Same with Arizona.....and even Lubbock, which is not terribly far.

I was originally going to go with a Dr. in Canon City CO. When insurance and I went round and round, I ended up going to Mexico, but use my original choice for follow up care, though I am considering using the Fill Center USA inAlbq. for convenience.

Good Luck! I would love to see a GOOD surgeon settle in the state.

Welcome to LBT!!!

Kat

Hi! I received my band last Tuesday (May 7) in El Paso at Southwest Bariatrics with Dr. Bruce Applebaum. I had the best care, and was up and moving only hours after the proceedure. There are NO bariatric surgeons here. Closest ones are in El Paso, Lubbock, Phoenix or Colorado. Good Luck!! If your insurance covers it (mine did) they propably have a network surgeon in mind that they use.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
