RE: Vacation After Banding

Recommended Posts

I am to be banded around the end of July.

I have a weeks vacation at OBX scheduled the 3rd week of August.

Am I going to feel well enough to swim, walk, drive, ride bikes, etc. or should I schedule surgury after I come back?

I can't change the vacation dates but I can schedule the surgery accordingly.

:confused2:

It would not have been a problem for me. I think the doctor says be careful for the first 10 days or so as far as getting the incision site wet. I certainly would have felt up to vacation three weeks later but you may still be on soft foods.

I went on vacation just three days after banding. I didn't do a lot of physical activity though as it was for my mom's funeral. At three or four weeks I would think you would be alright. I had infection issues that kept me from healing for awhile but would have been fine otherwise. The hardest part was the liquid and then soft foods while traveling. Good luck

Thanks for your input!!

I really want this done ASAP and knowing that I won't feel crappy during vacation helps.

We have 12 people staying at our beach house and I guess I will be cooking but just not eating.

Has anyone had any thoughts of using a small food processor with normal foods, like several months after being banded? :confused2:

You may not be able to go swimming though. It depends on how healed your incisions are.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
